Finally. We made it to Part 3 of the Mystery Crochet Along using Bulky yarn. I am beyond happy to see everyone’s pictures of Part 1 and 2 in my Facebook group. I can’t wait to see how your final picture of your creation looks like.
You will need the color of the bulky yarns you have most of and prefer. Part 3 is about putting it all together by sewing and adding some additional crocheting parts to it.
If you do not know what I am talking about, please check out my Main Post about the Mystery Crochet Along where all the information about this wonderful event is listed.
Be sure to join my Facebook Group and show off your WIPS and finished Part3 pattern creations. I really wanna see your final picture. I would also love to know if you loved this Mystery Crochet ALong and whether or not you want me to work on the next one.
So, let’s get started with the pattern now, cause I am pretty sure you scrolled down to the final picture already before reading this as you were too curious. Haha. I get it.
Mystery Crochet Along Part 3 Pattern
- bulky yarn in 2 different colors (your choice of color and yarn company, it does not matter) -> I used DMC Natura XL 100% Cotton Yarn in the colors:
- #8 (2 skeins) and #9 (3 skeins), each skein is 50g/75m
- 6.0mm hook -> I used Furls Crochet Odyssey Hook in Purple
- tapestry needle
Stitches used (US terms):

- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
11 rows x 10 sts = 4 square inches
16 (wide) x 18 (with handles, flat) inches
First, lay out your squares in such a way that your main color (that you have most of or prefer) is in layers of 2 or 4 and the contrasting colors in layers of 3, just like the picture below shows. Please be aware that my rows are perpendicular to each other when looking at the squares. The rows from the yellow squares are pointing to the left and the ones from the green squares are pointing to the right.
Next, you will start sewing the squares together by going thru the outer stitches of the squares by holding 2 squares together as shown below.
As you can see below, I sewed the squares together in a zic zag. That saves yarn, time and you can actually see your project coming together as you sew it.
Now fold the sewn together square creation in half and fold over the outside squares of the row with 4 squares. Now sew together the outside edges. Do not sew the top 2 squares (2 on each side) together as you will need an opening.
You will now crochet on the handle of the now created bag. Yes, I said it. It is a bag 🙂 Starting from the corner of one of the squares, attach the yellow yarn, ch 2. Now crochet the following sequence such that the single crochet is right on the tip of the corner of the square: 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, ch 1, and turn. Now crochet single crochet rows until you reach the length of the strap you desire (mine is 32 rows long). Sew on the end of the strap to the other square right next to it (not on the opposite side of the bag).
Now repeat the process for the strap on the opposite side of the bag.
You are now done and finished your Mystery Crochet Along Bag using Bulky yarn. I hope you enjoyed this pattern and that it had a mystery component to it. I will for sure create more Mystery Crochet Alongs soon. They sure are super fun and enjoyable.
Be sure to show me your finished bag and post a picture of it in my Facebook group. I would love to see it.
Please let me know if you want me to create more Mystery Crochet Alongs in the future. Also please share this post with others on social media so they get to enjoy it as much as you do. I am pretty sure they all have bulky yarn in their stash and can easily just start now and follow along with us.
