How to Crochet the Owl Tissue Box Cover Pattern

Owl Tissue Box Cover Materials

• Caron simply soft in the colors Robbins Egg, Royal Blue, White, and Persimmon
• 5.0mm hook
• scissors
• tapestry needle
• 2x12mm plastic eyes with closures
• tissue box that has these dimensions: 5 x 4.5 x4.5 inches

Gauge

4 sc x 5 rows = 1 square inch

Stitches used

• single crochet
• double crochet
• half double crochet
• treble crochet

Free Owl Tissue Box Cover Written Instructions

The tissue box is added from the bottom of the owl. The tissues come out in front of the peak. That means the tissue box is lying on the side instead of upright.

You will need to make 2 side panels, 1 top panel, and 1 front panel where the face is and 1 back panel.

Owl Tissue Box Cover Panels

Side panels (make 2)

Start with the color Robbins Egg

Row 1: Crochet a chainless foundation chain for 20 single crochets (find a tutorial for it HERE) or crochet a chain of 21 and start from the 2nd chain and crochet 1 sc in each chain across (20 sts), turn

Row 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st, turn

Row 3 – 10: repeat row 2,

Change color to Royal Blue

Row 11- 19: repeat row 2, fasten off

Top panel

Start with the color Royal Blue

Row 1: Crochet a chainless foundation chain for 20 single crochets (find a tutorial for it HERE) or crochet a chain of 21 and start from the 2nd chain and crochet 1 sc in each chain across (20 sts), turn

Row 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st, turn

Row 3 – 19: repeat row 2, fasten off

Back panel:

Start with the color Robbins Egg

Row 1: Crochet a chainless foundation chain for 17 single crochets (find a tutorial for it HERE) or crochet a chain of 18 and start from the 2nd chain and crochet 1 sc in each chain across (17 sts), turn

Row 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st, turn

Row 3 – 10: repeat row 2,

Change color to Royal Blue

Row 11- 19: repeat row 2, fasten off

Front panel

Row 1: Crochet a chainless foundation chain for 17 single crochets (find a tutorial for it HERE) or crochet a chain of 18 and start from the 2nd chain and crochet 1 sc in each chain across (17 sts), turn

Row 2 – 5: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn

You are now working on one side of the face first and then you repeat the same on the other side.

Row 6: 1 sc in the next 6 sts, ch 1, turn

Row 7 – 10: repeat row 4

Now fasten off for this side, and add the yarn to the outside edge of the row 6 for the side that was not worked on, repeat rows 6-10 on that side as well.

But after row 10 of the second side, change the color to Royal Blue as you’ll continue for 9 more rows.

Row 11: Ch 1, 1 sc in the next 6 sts, ch 5 (which helps reattach to the other side) OR do 5 foundation single crochets (will be easier to crochet the next row later), 1 sc in the next 6 sts, ch 1, turn

Row 12: 1 sc in the next 6 sts, 1 sc in each of the created chs from the previous row, 1 sc in the next 6 sts, ch 1, turn

Row 13-19: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn

Fasten off at the end of row 19.

Face For Owl Tissue Box Cover

Beak (make 2 sides)

The beak is made by making 2 sides and then sewing them together. So follow the instructions below twice. 

Row 1: Crochet a chainless foundation chain for 9 single crochets (find a tutorial for it HERE) or crochet a chain of 10 and start from the 2nd chain and crochet 1 sc in each chain across (9 sts), ch 1, turn

Row 2: 1 sc in the next 4 sts, 1 hdc in the next 2 sts, 1 dc in the next 2 sts, 1 tr in the next st, ch 1, turn

Row 3: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn

Row 4: repeat row 2, fasten off

Sew these two sides together having the smaller sides on one end and the larger sides on the other end. See picture for better clarification.

Eyes (make 2)

Make a magic ring (find a tutorial for it HERE), ch 1, place 8 sc in the ring, pull tight to close the ring

Round 1: 2 sc in each st, DO NOT SL ST (use a stitch marker and continue)

Round 2: *2 sc in the same st, 1 sc in the next st, repeat from * all around

Round 3: *2 sc in the same st, 1 sc in the next 2 sts, repeat from * all around, sl st, fasten off

Cut a longer piece of yarn after you fastened off. You will now sew the eyes of the owl onto the front tissue box cover panel.

Sew the eyes right next to each other on the blue part above the hole as the picture shows.

Add the plastic eyes now.

Sewing your owl tissue box cover together

See the panels together like this:

First, sew the beak over the hole on the front panel having the small pointy side right between the eyes. See the owl tissue box cover picture if that is not clear.

Now sew one side panel to the top panel having the Royal Blue parts touching. Repeat the same for the other side panel.

Next sew the back panel to the side and top panels. Making sure to use the color yarn that was used for a certain area.

Meaning use Royal Blue when Royal Blue was used and Robbins Egg for Robbins Eggs. This will make your owl tissue box cover look neater.

Repeat the same procedure as you just did for the back panel for the front panel to create your owl tissue box cover.

Last add the ears as yarn strings. Cut 4 Royal Blue and 4 Robbins Eggs yarn strings that are about 5 inches long.

Bundle them and pull them thru on corner above one eye and tie a string of Robbins Eggs around it. Repeat that for the other side to have 2 ears as yarn strings.

Finally, weave in all the yarn and place the tissue box inside the cover. Then pull the tissues thru the beak’s opening. You are now done with the Owl Tissue Box Cover. Yay
