Simple and Beautiful Crochet Granny Shawl – Free Pattern

This fantastic free crochet pattern is called the Simple Royal Granny Shawl. Who would have thought that such amazingly simple combinations of granny stitches and crossover stitches would create one of the most beautiful and elegant accessory to complete your favorite outfit.
The Simple Royal Granny Shawl is a free crochet pattern. Using the basic premise of the granny square, the finished creation is both elegant and warm.
Don’t be misled by the name. The granny shawl is not for grannies (unless that’s who you actually want to make one for).
This shawl is for everyone! It’s warm. It’s elegant. Best of all, it’s easy! If you’ve never tried your hand at a granny square, that’s okay.
Crochet Granny Shawl Pattern Details
The concept for the shawl is the similar to a granny square by using the simple, quick, repeating stitch patterns that make granny squares so well-known.
If you’d like to try you hand at a granny shawl, please continue to the pattern below.
This pattern is now also available as a video tutorial that shows certain parts explain visually. Be sure to check it out below!
The best part of this hidden gem of a pattern is the amazing effect you will create when you use 2 different Caron Cakes with similar themes. The unique combination of reducing rows sequentially between crossover stitches, with a little color variation in your Caron Cakes, rewards you with a light, incredibly beautiful and elegant triangle crochet granny shawl that everyone will be asking you about.
Fun to Wear Crochet Granny Shawl
Having my husband help me with the pictures, made me feel so incredibly gorgeous. Not only did he have wonderful ideas on how to bring out the beauty of the colors, but he knew exactly how to make this shawl look fabulous no matter how you wear it.
The Royal Granny Shawl also looks fantastic when worn as a warm cozy scarf or around your hip as a light, comfy skirt.
Whether you go to the beach, to a party, a date night out or just to work, this Royal Granny Shawl will make you stand out in the crowd. The simple combination of the granny stitch with a crossover granny stitch every few rows make this shawl easy and fast to make.
I have used the granny stitch on a different pattern before. Be sure to check out how to create a granny square blanket in about 2 hours HERE.
