I’m Nicole!
My name is Nicole Riley and I am the creator, blogger, and designer for Nicki’s Homemade Crafts which started in 2016. I provide mostly free crochet patterns that are well written with many photos and usually at least one video to provide visual support for those who need additional help on the patterns or stitches. All my patterns are designed with functionality, love, and familiarity in mind. I get inspired by nature and the things that I come across daily.
For a little bit of background about me, I live with my husband, kids, and 1 cat in San Diego, CA. I am originally from Germany though, from a small town called Nordhausen. I have a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from UCSD.
After working in research for a few years, I turned my crochet into a full-time job teaching how to crochet easy and functional patterns. To this date, I have designed well over 700 patterns, created and self-published over 30 ebooks, and a popular membership called The Crochet Club. I also host bi-monthly crochet pattern bundles featuring 30-40 pattern designers and a sponsoring yarn company such that crocheters can get incredible patterns ad-free at 90% off for a limited time only.
I always loved crafts and made many paintings and drawings when I was younger. In fact, I give created to my mom for allowing me to always be creative and to my grandma for teaching me to knit as a young teen which led me into crocheting.
I absolutely love creating crochet patterns and tutorials, as well as help others learn this amazing therapeutic hobby. There is nothing that relaxes me more than sitting in my craft chair and crochet and read (or listen of to books).

Did you know that crochet items that you find at a store are all handmade? There is no crocheting machine that can create crocheted items, only a knitting machine exists. We are a special group of people that know a craft that no machine can replicate. That makes me feel good and special. Doesn’t make you feel unique and special too?
