Is it safe to put crochet bowl cozies in the microwave?
While some crochet bowl cozy patterns are described as microwave-safe, I personally do not recommend putting ANY yarn in the microwave, including cotton or acrylic.
Although some people use 100% cotton bowl cozies in the microwave without problems, that doesn’t guarantee they’re safe. Yarn labels, dyes, decorative details, and other materials can affect how a finished cozy behaves when heated. Acrylic yarn should NEVER be microwaved because it can melt.
My recommendation is to heat your food in the bowl first, then place the bowl inside your crochet cozy. That way, you can enjoy using your handmade bowl cozy without putting the yarn in the microwave.
