10 Beautiful Blanket Patterns in Multiple Colors
We crochet for different reasons. Sometimes you want a relaxing project to help you unwind and de-stress. In this case, you can choose one of the easy crochet blanket patterns that uses basic crochet stitches and simple repeats. The Rolling Wave Blanket or Three Color Baby Blanket would work well for a calming project.
Other times, you may prefer a challenging project that will stimulate your mind. You don’t want to work the same stitch over and over again. Then, you might want to try a sampler, like the Rainbow Granny Square Blanket or the Mixtape Medley Blanket. These introduce new stitches every so many rows or every square, so they hold your interest.
We’ve got a little something for every skill level, even for beginner crocheters. So are you ready to find your next favorite blanket? Let’s get on with these free crochet patterns!
Rolling Waves Blanket
An ombre color scheme uses gradually-changing shades of one color. The color transitions from light to dark and back again to create a gentle, calming effect in this gorgeous crochet blanket.
The wave pattern is made with simple stitches, which increase and decrease in height from single crochet (sc) to treble (tr). You can also use this technique on scarves, pillows, or any project you like! Just follow the rolling waves video stitch tutorial, here.

Mini C2C Butterfly Blanket
Another great way to use multiple colors in a crochet blanket is a C2C graphghan. With this fun technique, you can make pretty much any picture you like. But in this case, I’ve designed a beautiful monarch butterfly, accented with a branch with green leaves.
If you’ve never tried working a color chart in C2C crochet, the good news is that this blanket uses only four colors. For further help, I’ve also included a video tutorial for the mini C2C technique. When finished, this blanket will cover a king-size bed!

Three Color Crochet Baby Blanket
In this bright and cheerful crochet blanket, simple single crochet and double crochet stitches are punctuated by front post bobbles. This creates a colorful crochet blanket with a beautifully-textured fabric.
Though it’s titled as a baby blanket, the designer has included a helpful table with dimensions and yardage for any size blanket.

Harlequin Blanket
The characteristic diamonds of the harlequin stitch are made by increasing and decreasing many stitches at once. So if you want to practice increases and decreases, this is a fun way to do that. A ribbed border in front and back post double crochet adds the perfect finishing touch.
Bulky yarn–especially a roving yarn like the one pictured here–gives definition to the stitches, so you can really see this beautiful stitch pattern. It also works up quickly with an 8 mm hook, so it could even work as a quick weekend crochet project if you have a baby shower coming up soon.

Mixtape Medley Blanket
If you tend to get bored working one stitch for an entire blanket, this colorful blanket is the perfect project for you! It’s an explosion of color and texture that allows you to practice many different crochet colorwork techniques, from tapestry crochet, to granny blocks, to houndstooth …
This is a great stash-busting project. You can totally change the look and feel of the blanket, depending on your taste and your yarn stash. What color scheme would you choose?

Rainbow Granny Square Blanket
We can’t have a collection of colorful blankets without mentioning granny squares. The granny square is an iconic crochet motif and can be made in so many fun color combinations.
And it doesn’t stop with the traditional granny square. This blanket includes 14 different varieties of granny square to try. These variations change the look of the granny square by adding flowers, setting the stitches at a different angle, or just simple color changes.

Arcade Treads Blanket
This stunning crochet blanket alternates rows of bright colors with contrasting rows of a darker color. The dark-colored rows incorporate double treble stitches, which drop down at an angle over the previous row into the row below it. This creates a pattern that resembles tire treads and allows pops of bright color the show through.

C2C Buffalo Plaid Blanket
When we hear “C2C,” a lot of crocheters will think of the C2C box stitch, which is great for graphghans like the butterfly blanket above. But just about any stitch pattern can be worked on the diagonal (or bias), as long as you know how to increase and decrease.
Take, for example, this buffalo plaid blanket worked in griddle stitch. Easy color changes in tapestry crochet make up the plaid design. This blanket uses the classic red and black plaid color scheme. But you can make buffalo plaid from any neutral and two shades (one lighter and one darker) of another color.

Rainbow Harmony Blanket
This gorgeous blanket is bursting with 12 vibrant hues. It’s a great example of how many different looks you can achieve from one pattern, just by mixing up the colors.
This blanket would make a great scrap yarn project. But if you’d like to have a more cohesive color scheme, like the one pictured here, the pattern page also includes helpful advice about choosing a color palette for your project.

Through the Window Afghan
Similar to the treads afghan above, this crochet blanket switches between a main color and a contrasting color (or colors) – just one color per row. For the contrasting rows, you’ll chain over some stitches. Then, in the next row, you’ll work over the chains with drop-down double crochets into the skipped stitches, revealing little squares of the contrasting color.
For the sample blanket pictured here, the designer changed skeins every so many rows. But if you want to make a colorful afghan without having to change color so often, you can also use a variegated or self-striping yarn.
