What will you need for the 6-in-1 Chicken, Chicks, Eggs, and Nest Pattern LIVE Crochet Along?
Click the links below to see which materials I used exactly!
- 4.0mm crochet hook
- scissors
- tapestry needle
- polyfill
- small button (about 1 cm in diameter)
- Mary Maxim Starlette Yarn (100% Acrylic, Worsted, 180yds/100g):
- White (7/8 of a skein) – for the Mommy Chicken and Eggs
- Soft Yellow (1/3 of a skein) – for Chicks, and Mommy’s Beak
- Chocolate Brown (2/3 of a skein) – Nest
- Cardinal – a little bit for the comb
- Burnt Orange – a little bit for the Baby Chicks Beaks, Feet
- Black – a little bit for the eyes (optionally use plastic eyes instead)
I recommend sticking with the colors mentioned above, but optionally, the baby chicks can also be white, the mommy chicken can also be darker (like grey, etc) and the nest can be made in a bit lighter brown.
Can I use a different yarn?
Yes, you can switch to a different yarn brand, even a different fiber if you prefer.
I recommend this yarn: Mary Maxim Starlette Yarn but you can also use another worsted yarn.
You can find all of Mary Maxim’s Worsted yarn selections here.
But it’s an ideal project as a yarn stash buster. Use leftover yarn if you have any. I would recommend sticking with either of my above recommendations.
What colors should I pick?
I recommend any of the mentioned solid colors.
Either stick with the colors I picked or pick your favorite colors. Remember you will need 1 skein for some color and less for others.
Can I use a different hook size?
Yes, you can pick a different size. Just remember the pattern will be a bit smaller or larger unless you focus on the gauge provided.

Now turn your work (or continue but the next round needs to in the front loop on then).
R1: 1 sc in the back loop only
R2-9: 1 sc per st
Now fold over (to the outside) the last 9 rounds, such that the last round touches the leftover loop from round 1 you didn’t use (front or back loop).
Sew the last round to that leftover loop and every inch stuff the closed area lightly with polyfill.
Now it’s time to make 2 LONG chains (or thin icords) (length is up to you), but I recommend at least 6-8 feet each.
Sew (only the points of the zig zags) the first chain in a zig zag around the fluffy part of the nest. Once you went one time around, you can start weaving before sewing.
With the 2nd chain, just weave it through all the loops and zig zag created with the first chain. Do this randomly. Now nest looks the same.
The video will show this step very clearly.
Fasten off and weave in all leftover ends.
Now you are done and can play with your mommy chicken laying eggs with baby chicks, sitting on the nest.
Be sure to share your progress pictures in our Facebook group using the hashtag #LIVECALAPR24 so we can celebrate you.
