So let me now get started and tell you what you will need in order to crochet this amazing pattern.
How to crochet the Christmas Gift Beanie
Materials:
- Premier Yarns Anti-Pilling Everyday Worsted (less than 1 skein):
- really red
- Loops and Thread Impeccable yarn (less than 1 skein):
- green
- 5.0mm hook
- scissors
- tapestry needle
Stitches used (US terms):
Click HERE to learn these basic stitches
- magic circle
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- hdc = half double crochet
- blo = back loop only
- inv sc dec = invisible single crochet decrease
Gauge:
2 rows x 3 sts = 1 square inch
Final Size:
9 inches in diameter x 7 inches in height (fits a teen/adult)
Instructions:
This pattern is written for a teen/adult size. But if you would like to make the beanie for a different size, please check out my detailed tutorial with reference charts on how to do that HERE
Start with the red yarn
Round 1: Make a Magic Circle and add 10 hdc’s to the circle, then close the circle and sl st to the first st
Round 2: ch 1, 2 hdc in each st, sl st to the first st
Round 3: ch 1, *1 hdc, 2 hdc in the same st, repeat from * all around, sl st to the first st
Round 4: ch 1, * 1 hdc in the next 2 sts, 2 hdc in the same st, repeat from * all around, sl st to the first st
Round 5: ch 1, * 1 hdc in the next 3 sts, 2 hdc in the same st, repeat from * all around, sl st to the first st
Round 6: ch 1, * 1 hdc in the next 4 sts, 2 hdc in the same st, repeat from * all around, sl st to the first st
Round 7: ch 1, * 1 hdc in the next 5 sts, 2 hdc in the same st, repeat from * all around, sl st to the first st
Round 8 – 13: ch 1, 1 hdc in each st, sl st to the first st
Change colors to green
Round 14 -17: ch 1, 1 sc in each st, sl st to the first st
Round 18: ch 1, 1 sc in the next 5 sts, 1 inv sc dec, repeat from * all around, sl st to the first st
Change color back to red
Round 19 -23: ch 1, 1 sc in the blo in each st, sl st to the first st
Fasten off after round 23 and weave in the ends.
Ribbon across the Christmas Gift Beanie
This ribbon is different in size depending on the size of the beanie. Mine fits a teen/adult size beanie.
Use the green yarn
Ch 5
Row 1: starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn
Row 2 – 52: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn

Use the green yarn
Chain 51, then starting from the 2nd ch from the hook
Row 1: 1 sc dec, 1 sc in each st until 2 sts left, 1 sc dec, ch 1, turn (48 sts)
Row 2 – 6: repeat row 1 (after row 6, you have 38 sts)
Row 7: 1 sc dec, 1 sc in each st until 7 sts left, ch 1, turn (30 sts)
Row 8: 1 sc dec, 1 sc in each st until 7 sts left, ch 1, turn (24 sts)
Row 9 – 10: 1 sc in each st, ch 1 turn, after row 10, sl st and fasten off.
Small piece to wrap around the bow:
Ch 10, then starting from the 2nd ch from the hook
Row 1 – 2: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn, fasten off after row 2, cut the end to be about half a foot long for sewing.
Fold the large piece to make it look like a bow, pinch the middle and sew together the end of the small piece. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Sew it all together
First, sew the ribbon to the beanie across using green yarn. Finally, sew the bow to one of the crossing points or intersections of the green yarn stripes. Fasten off and weave in all the ends.
