Can I use a different yarn?
Yes, you can switch to a different yarn brand, even a different fiber if you prefer.
I recommend any worsted yarn for this project. Pick from your yarn stash if you want, BUT I highly recommend the yarns mentioned above.
But it’s an ideal project as a yarn stash buster. Use leftover yarn if you have any. I would recommend sticking with either of my above recommendations.
What colors should I pick?
I recommend any of the mentioned solid colors.
Either stick with the colors I picked or pick your favorite colors for your favorite pieces.
Can I use a different hook size?
Yes, you can pick a different size. Just remember the pattern will be a bit smaller or larger unless you focus on the gauge provided.

BLOCK your pieces for the house!

Assembly of the House
The following instructions are for my assembly. BUT you can also crochet ALL walls twice and have the plastic canvas pieces between each crochet piece, which wouldn’t require any fabric. But that takes longer and needs double the amount of yarn.
First, cut plastic canvas pieces for ALL crocheted pieces for the house (besides the bottom floor). All plastic canvas pieces should be about ¼ inch shorter all around compared to your crocheted pieces. Now cut your fabric pieces for ALL those plastic canvas pieces. All fabric pieces (ironed first) should be 1 – 1.5 inches larger than the plastic canvas pieces.
Remember that you have a window and a door. So cut those out from the plastic canvas pieces (about ¼ inch more than the edge of the window or door).
Lay each plastic canvas piece on top of each fabric piece. Glue the plastic canvas piece to the fabric. Cut away the corners in a diagonal. Then fold over the edges of the fabric and glue them to the plastic canvas sheet.
Glue floral wires + pipecleaners as beams across the ceiling piece (or wooden dowels for MORE stability). Those beams are only on one side and will point down.
Now, sew the first level walls to the floor piece. Sew the back wall to the right wall and the left wall (with the door). Leave the front wall as it as. Sew the ceiling to the left, back and right wall.
Sew the triangles above the left and right wall.
Glue the fabric+plastic canvas sheet to the roof pieces. Do the same for the triangle pieces, the right, back, left, and front walls.
Glue the back roof to the triangles (there will be an overhang of the roof) – I glued the fabric roof piece to the fabric triangle pieces. Glue a wooden dowel to the very top, to the first roof’s fabric piece. Lay the second roof piece (with fabric+plastic canvas piece already glued on) on the other side and sew only the top to the first roof piece. Cut 4 wooden dowels such that they go into each corner of the first floor.
Glue 1 (or more) wooden dowels to the roof’s inside (to the fabric for extra stability of the roof – think of them as beams.
For the 2nd floor, I laid the plastic canvas loosely to the floor. That way I can hide the wires to the LED lights and the ceiling light (install it at this point).

Chimney
Use Fiesta Red Twisted Yarn
Ch 32, connect first with last chain (keeping 32 sts), crocheting in continuous rounds
R1-7: 1 sc each st
R8: 1 sc dec, 1 sc per st until you have 10 sts left, 1 sc dec, skip last 8 sts, turn
R9: 1 sc dec, 1 sc per st until you have 2 sts left, 1 sc dec, turn
Repeat R9 until you have 8 sts left in a row
Fasten off
Cut 4 plastic canvas pieces that you can glue to the inside to turn the chimney square-shaped when you look from the top down.
Glue/sew the chimney to the BACK – first roof piece (the one that doesn’t move). Add some polyfill loosely to create “smoke”.
Door
Use the Starelette Sparkle Emerold yarn
Ch 13, start from the 2nd ch from the hook
R1-17: 1 sc per st, turn
Fasten off. Use red to sew on a door handle. Glue a plastic canvas sheet behind it. Then glue the plastic canvas with the green door to the outside of the brown door on the house.

Rug (white)
R1: Magic ring, ch 1 (not a stitch), 6 sc, close the ring, continuous rounds
R2: 2 sc per st

R4: (1 sc in 2 sts, 2 sc) 6 times
R5: (1 sc in 3 sts, 2 sc) 6 times
R6: (1 sc in 4 sts, 2 sc) 6 times
R7: (1 sc in 5 sts, 2 sc) 6 times
R8: (1 sc in 6 sts, 2 sc) 6 times
R9: (1 sc in 7 sts, 2 sc) 6 times

Christmas Tree
First (inner) foundation layer

R3: *1 sc in the BACK LOOP ONLY in the next 2 sts, 1 sc in the BACK LOOP ONLY inc (so 2 sc’s in the same st), repeat from * until the end of the round
Now repeat R2 and R3 as many times as you like depending on how big the tree needs to be
Once the inner lay is done, now let’s crochet the outer layer
now crochet in a spiral backwards back up to the tip crocheting in the FRONT LOOP ONLY
sl st to the first flo, *ch 4, sl st to the next flo, then repeat from * until you reach the top

Assembly
Glue on ANY stickers or candy cane pipe cleaners (around the door as a frame and window frame) or crochet pieces (star, wreath) you made on the outside. Meaning, decorate it however you like. ALL Gingerbread Houses should look different. That is what makes them fun to make. As mentioned, my stickers (flat or 3D) are from Michaels or Hobby Lobby.
You can now also decorate the inside of your Gingerbread House. I also added red and white yarn around the inside 4 wooden dowels (in the corners). And I glued on the Go For Faux Yarn around ALL edges and the window frame (inside). Finally, I added the LED light string all around.
