Instructions:

Make sure to watch the video for Hairpin Lace first. Using the Clover Hairpin Lace tool, put 2 pins into position 8 and 8 (pins are 8cm apart). Then crochet 4 panels each with 140 loops on each side. Before removing the loops from the stick, make sure to add a spare yarn piece through to secure them from the stick, make sure to add a spare yarn piece through to secure them from twisting.

Each panel has loops on 2 sides. Connect 2 panels using the fancy chevron technique: pick up 4 loops (twisted) from one panel, *1 sc over all 4 loops, ch 3, repeat from * until the end of the panel (one side only). So the same with ONE of the sides of the next panel. Now, you’ll crochet between the 2 panels rows you just crocheted like this: **1 sc into ch 3, ch 3, go to the ch 3 of the next panel, 1 sc, ch 3, repeat from ** until both panels are connected.

Fold the rectangle in half such that you connect the outer loops together on each side.

Connect a new yarn on one of the loops, **then grab 4 loops at a time (twisted) on one side and crochet 2 sc sts around it, then go to the next 4 loops on the other side and crochet 2 sc around it, and repeat until the end of the side, fasten off. Now repeat from ** on the other side, where the loops haven’t been worked on yet.

Now, crochet evenly spaced sc sts around the top opening (for the handles) – I have 98 stitches.

Now, using stitch markers and laying it flat, break up the round into 4 sections, 20 stitches in the center (where the handles will be), 29 sts on each side. For this next row, 1 sc per st for the 29 st sections, ch 20, sk 20 for the 20 st sections. Now, 2 more rounds of 1 sc per st/ch (98 sts), fasten off, weave in ends.
