Crocheting has many health benefits for our body and mind. But most crocheters sit a lot when crocheting, so here you will be able to join a group of like-minded people who love to crochet but want to live a better life through movements and healthier food choices.
As we are nearing the end of the year, we all like to make New Years Resolutions. But I always feel like these resolutions are more in our mind than actually put into action. When I think of the Holidays, I think of me eating a bit too much of everything and see that reflected on the scale.
Although I am not a doctor, I created a group on Facebook that provides the support and motivation for everyone to make better life choices when it comes to either making better food choices and exercising.
Now, I will tell you up front, that I will not tell you what to eat or how to exercise. I am not a licensed medical doctor or dietitian. Therefore, I am not allowed to provide you with medical advice. The same goes for the members of the group.
Learn WHY you should join the “Better Living with Crochet” Group
I created the group for multiple reasons that I believe you will love very much.
- Peer support when it comes to struggling regarding healthier life choices
- Motivation from others and me
- Accountability for yourself by posting your progress
- Create a POSITIVE mindset when it comes to making a better living for yourself
- Show off your crochet projects while living a better life
- have a chance to WIN crochet patterns and more each week
I have created a few units in the “Better Living with Crochet” that are completely optional, but will help you make your experience in this group a much better one.
If you would like to join this amazing group, please answer a few questions when trying to join the group and I will approve your membership into the group.
Let me explain to you how we will achieve to create a better life for ourselves while we are still able to enjoy crocheting – all the while, making sure our accountability to our goals stay high and motivating.
How does the “Better Living with Crochet” Group work?
It is actually very simple. I do not want to take much time away from your day to make sure you participate in the group. Remember we are a support group that keeps a positive feeling throughout. And I will never force you to participate, although you will benefit if you do.
I will create a weekly post that everyone should (but not forced to) post at least 4 times per week. You will share your daily accomplishments regarding what you are proud of, what you crocheted, and how you made healthier choices for yourself when it comes to food and movements.
I would like to have everyone provide at least 1 positive comment to another person for that day. Giving is such a powerful thing to do on a daily basis. You will make yourself feel better and also the other person.
If you see someone having a comment already, find someone who does not have a comment yet and comment on that persons comment first. Feel free to make as many people happy as you like. Providing positive words to people is one of the best way to give back to the community.
Why should I participate?
This is an easy question to answer. You will help yourself to stay accountable. Research shows that being accountable to at least one person helps us stay on track more likely. Therefore, support groups are a very powerful tool to provide the foundation of accountability.
Furthermore, we are all like-minded people. We are all crocheters who likely sit a lot and very likely do not make great food choices.
Let me tell you what I will do to create a better living with crochet for myself. Again, this is my choice and goal of living better, but I’m not licensed in anyway to tell you that is the right way for you or anyone else.
My goal of a daily routine:
- start the day with 30-60 mins of an exercise (walking for an hour OR cardio or weight lifting or stretching/ yoga using Beachbody on Demand)
- listen to an audiobook for at least 1 hour to help me feel grounded, peaceful, motivated or inspired
- eat more whole foods such as fruits, vegetables or homemade foods from whole foods and meats and fish
- eat less “ready to go” foods that are quick to make
- do at least 1 good dead to another person (through the Facebook group or in real life)
- crochet at least 1-hour per day to keep me happy
- move my body at least 5 mins each hour when I know I have to sit a lot (such as working on a computer)
These are the things I will do to help me. I will also post into the group to keep myself accountable. I would like to lose some weight. When making healthier choices for yourself you will likely lose some weight too. But please consult a doctor first, when making changes to your lifestyle.
How is Crochet included in the “Better Living with Crochet” group?
Again, another very simple question. Each day, you get to show off what you are working or what you finished. When someone would like to know how you crocheted it (pattern link) you are allowed to share the link to the pattern. But please be sure to mention if the pattern is paid or free.
Furthermore, crocheting is such an import part of the group as everyone in the group crochets. We are like-minded people who understand each other and will support each other and provide positive words that help each other to stay motivated and inspired.
The power of crochet keeps us all going and help us when we fall into hard times. It is like the light at the end of the tunnel. If you are interested, feel free to read how crochet helped me in so many ways to become a better person mentally.
