Instructions for the Crochet Block and Off Set Shell Stitch
Before you start crocheting the Bookmark, Headband or Cowl, let’s first go through the stitch tutorial and learn how to crochet this stitch.
INSTRUCTIONS:
To make a swatch to practice this stitch, make a chain of 11 + 6 (when using the ATC = alternative Turning Chain with the height of a dc st – if you use the ch of 3 as a turning stitch, crochet 11+7, both ATC and ch 3 count as a dc st)
R1: start from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 ATC, 1 dc in 4 sts, *sk 2 sts, 1 5-dc shell stitch (5 dc sts in the same st), ch 2, sk 3 sts, 1 dc in 5 sts, repeat from * until the end, finish with 5 dc sts, turn
R2: 1 ATC, 1 dc in 4 sts, *sk 3 sts (2 chs + 1 dc), 1 5-dc shell st in the next dc st, ch 2, sk 3 sts, 1 dc in 5 sts, repeat from * until the end, finish with 5 dc sts, turn
Repeat R2 for the pattern
