It’s time to kick off this year’s Advent Calendar Mystery Crochet Along. This year, we’re keeping things fun with a simple 3-day rotation: Day 1 is a giveaway, Day 2 is a stitch tutorial, and Day 3 is a free crochet pattern using the stitch from the day before. Then the cycle starts again and continues right up until December 24th. Each day will be a fun holiday surprise for crochet lovers!
The first stitch tutorial in this year’s line-up is the Extreme Drop Leaf Stitch, one of my favorite textured stitches. It creates a beautiful, unique “falling leaves” look that feels both festive and cozy, perfect for holiday makes or anything you want to give a little extra charm. Even though it looks fancy, it’s much easier to work than you might expect, so you get that “wow” factor without the stress. Plus, using two contrasting colors makes the leaf shapes pop even more, giving your work a unique look that really grabs attention.

This tutorial comes with easy-to-follow written instructions and a full video tutorial, making it super simple for beginners or anyone trying this stitch for the first time. I’ll walk you through each step so you can learn at your own pace and feel confident as you go.
And when you’re ready to practice your new skills, you can find a mystery free crochet pattern that use the Extreme Drop Leaf Stitch on my blog tomorrow as part of my Advent Calendar Mystery CAL. You’ll either get free-to-view access to the zipper pouch, basket, or snowman lovey. If you want all 3, grab the ebook here to get all 24 patterns with the 8-stitch tutorials instantly.
