Crochet Textured Measuring Tape Cover – Free Pattern and Video Tutorial

This free crochet pattern is for a textured measuring tape cover. This pattern is made from 2 small circles using mostly double crochet, front post double crochet, and single crochet stitches, and Shine Sport yarn from WeCrochet and includes a video tutorial.

After crocheting an easy measuring tape cover, I knew I had to crochet modifications of my pattern. Why? Cause they are fun and fast to crochet. They make the ideal gift and to be honest, I need a lot of them. They seem to be all disappearing after a while. Do they get feet? I don’t understand them. LOL

Since they are so fast to crochet, I made 2 more versions of the easy measuring tape cover. And here you can find the textured cover version. I think it might be my favorite. I just love how the front post double crochet provides so much extra texture and dimension.

Crocheting measuring tapes are so easy and fun, I don’t know why I never made them before and started with them much earlier. I literally designed all 3 patterns in one evening and finished them in one sitting while watching a very interesting Hallmark Channel Show.

Best Yarn for Measuring Tape Crochet Patterns

You can truly use any yarn you want. But I prefer using cotton yarn for my measuring tape covers as they are more durable that way. I used Shine Sport yarn as it has really bold and beautiful colors. The ideal thickness for these covers is a yarn that is sport-weight or thinner. I would likely not go heavier in yarn as you won’t be able to crochet many stitches.

How to crochet the
Textured Measuring Tape Cover

Materials, you’ll need

• WeCrochet “Shine Sport” Yarn (1 skein/ 50g/ 110yd) – less than 1 skein
  • Sky
• 3.25 mm hook
• scissors
• tapestry needle
• 2 inch Measuring Tape (bought bulk from Amazon here)

Gauge

6 sts x 3 rows = 1 square inch (single + double crochet stitches)

Size

2.5 inches in diameter

• sc = single crochet
• dc = double crochet
• fpdc = front post double crochet
• sc in 3rd loop behind the V
• sl st = slip stitch
• ch = chain
• mattress stitch

Written Pattern for the Textured Measuring Tape Cover:

First, you’ll crochet the 2 circles. Then you will sew them together, add the measuring tape halfway and finish sewing them together until done.

Start crocheting the circles

Make 2 circles

R1: Make a Magic Ring and add 6 sc, close the hole, use stitch marker as you’ll crochet in continuous rounds

R2: 3 dc in each st

R3: *[1 dc, 1 fpdc] in the same stitch, repeat from * until the end

R4: *1 sc in the 3rd loop behind the V all around

Fasten off and weave in all ends but after R4. For one of the circles leave a tail that is about 1ft long to sew together the 2 circles.

Sewing the circles together and cover the measuring tape

You can sew together the 2 circles as you wish, but I sewed them together in an S shape, by going through the 3rd loop behind the V stitches from side to side (see picture below). About halfway through I inserted the measuring tape and finished sewing the 2 circles together.

Fasten off and weave in your end. Now you are done and can enjoy your new cute measuring tape for every day use.
