A few weeks ago, my amazing friend Claire made me this gorgeous beaded measuring tape. I’m seriously in love with it. So much so that it inspired me to make my own crocheted measuring tape covers.
Yes more than one, cause let’s be real. Crocheters need a measuring tape in every pouch, bag or purse. Just in case. LOL
So I grabbed this beautiful yarn called Shine from WeCrochet and it was perfect. It’s soft, shiny, and the perfect thickness at sport weight. And I started designing not just one but 3 different measuring tape covers.
Here you will find the first version, which is easy and the ideal beginner crochet project. Below you will find the links to the textured and lacy patterns also.

Crocheting Measuring Tapes
Measuring Tapes can be so plain. So crocheting some cute and fun covers for them is the ideal solution. It makes me smile every time I grab my crochet hook pouch to pull out my measuring tape.
And of course, designing 3 different versions is only the beginning. I can see myself creating so many different versions, including animal measuring tape covers. How cute would those be?

Best Yarn for this Crochet Tape Measure Cover
You can truly use any yarn you want. But I prefer using cotton yarn for my measuring tape covers as they are more durable that way. I used Shine Sport yarn as it has really bold and beautiful colors.
The ideal thickness for these covers is a yarn that is sport-weight or thinner. I would likely not go heavier in yarn as you won’t be able to crochet many stitches.
Of course, you won’t need very much yarn as it is such a small project, only 20-30 yards. So maybe you can get lucky and find something from your stash or scraps to work with!

First, you’ll crochet the 2 circles. Then you will sew them together, add the measuring tape halfway and finish sewing them together until done.
Start crocheting the circles
Make 2 circles
R1: Make a Magic Ring and add 7 sc, close the hole, use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round, as you’ll crochet in continuous rounds.
R2: 2 sc in each st
R3: *1 sc, 2 sc in the next st, repeat from * until the end
R4: *1 sc in the next 2 sts, 2 sc in the next st, repeat from * until the end
R5: *1 sc in the next 3 sts, 2 sc in the next st, repeat from * until the end
R6: 1 sc in each st, TURN
R7: 1 sc in each st, until the last st, leave that one open
Fasten off and weave in all ends, but one after R7 of one of the circles that is about 1ft long to se together the 2 circles.

Sewing the circles together and covering the measuring tape
You can sew together the 2 circles as you wish, but I sewed them together in an S shape, by going through the stitches from side to side using the mattress stitch technique.
About half way through I inserted the measuring tape and then I finished sewing the 2 circles together. Then it’s time to fasten off and weave in your ends. Now you are done and can enjoy your new cute measuring tape for every day use.
