The Faux Fur Santa Suzette Hat is a free crochet pattern and perfect last-minute gift idea project. It’s crocheted with faux fur yarn and also the Suzette stitch.
“Santa is coming! Can I please look like Santa going to school?”, your kids or grandchildren might say. Well, when it’s cold outside you want them to be cozy and warm, this hat checks off two boxes: cozy and warm, and looks like a Santa hat.
So, I designed the Faux Fur Santa Suzette Hat to be easy and quick to make. And the Faux Fur ribbing makes it extremely snuggly while making and wearing it. Although you can make the hat in any color you wish, the red for sure is the perfect color to make it a Santa hat.
The Faux Fur Santa Suzette Hat features 2 different types of stitches: Suzette stitch and the Single Crochet stitch. Both of which are very easy to crochet.
Furthermore, it shows off beautifully the amazing WeCrochet yarn selection of Mighty Stitch Yarn as well as Fable Fur Yarn, both of which were provided to me in a partnership with WeCrochet. The yarns are both easy to use and are super soft. In fact, the Mighty stitch yarn has a satiny feel to it and makes it extra soft.
So let me now give you the list of supplies you need in order to make this beautiful Faux Fur Santa Suzette Hat pattern.
This pattern is also available as an ad-free printer-friendly pdf pattern that can be purchased at the links below for only a small fee.

Instructions for Faux Fur Santa Suzette Hat:
This pattern starts with the ribbing, then the middle section of the hat and finished off with the pom pom. The pattern is for an adult-sized hat but can be adjusted.
Using your 6.0mm hook and the faux fur yarn, ch 5
R1: starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each ch (4 sts), turn
R2 – 35: 1 sc in each st, turn
You can crochet less or more rows, depending on the size of the hat you want to crochet.
Fold the ribbing in half, and slip stitch the first and last row together to make a circle. Now switch yarns to mighty stitch and the hook to a 4.0mm.
Evenly crochet 1 row of single crochets all around, placing 2 sc’s in each “faux fur sc st” to an even number of stitches (70 sts for an adult-sized hat). Continue to crochet in continuous rounds, using a stitch marker to see where a new round begins.
R2-18: *1 Suzette stitch, sk 1 st, repeat from * until the end
Now, fasten off and cut your yarn so you have a tail about 12 inches. Then weave your yarn through every third suzette stitch in and out through the last round of the hat and then pull the yarn tightly to close the hat. Make a knot and weave in your ends.
Now, you will just need to crochet the pom pom for which I have a video tutorial here.
Make a magic ring add 8 sc into the ring, close the ring, sl st to the first st
R2: 2 sc in each st, sl st to the first st
R3: *1 sc, 2 sc in the same st, repeat from * until the end, sl st to the first st
R4: *1 sc, 1 sc dec, repeat from * until the end, sl st to the first st
R5: 1 sc dec all around, sl st to the first st
Now stuff with polyfill.
Use a tapestry needle to close the hole. It’s easiest to cut off some of the fur of the yarn tail to be able to insert it into the needle.
Sew the pom pom to the top of the hat and you’re finished.
Pom-Pom Options
You could wear the hat without a pom pom, but doesn’t it look so much better with it? And yes, you can also buy a pom-pom, use an actual faux fur (like fabric) to make your pom-pom or make a yarn pom-pom. It’s all up to you.
I must say I love how the pom pom turned out. So cuddly, soft, comfy and perfect for the Holidays.
Switch out the color of the yarn and its perfect for the entire winter, no matter which day it is.
