    SNOWFLAKES MESSY BUN HAT

Snowflakes Messy Bun Hat - Free Crochet Pattern

Since the Waistcoat stitch started trending I started to think about other patterns to create besides the “Love is in the Air Beanie“. So I created this FREE pattern which is called the Snowflakes Messy Bun Hat. And I am in love with it.

I have been wearing it since I created it. In fact, as you can see, it can be worn as a Ponytail Hat also. The pattern below is a teen/adult size, but with some experience can be made into different sizes. One way would be to use a smaller/larger hook size or to decrease/increase according to the amount of multiples (repeats) used.

This pattern calls for multiples of 14 stitches which in the teen/adult size adds up to 70 stitches in one round. So in order to create a hat for a younger child, try to increase in the beginning only until you have for example 56 stitches in a round that way you repeat the snowflake pattern only 4 times all the way around instead of 5 times, making the hat in total smaller.

    You will need:

    • 3.5mm and 5.0mm hook
    • Tapestry needle and scissors
    • Worsted weighted yarn, I used Premier Anti-Pilling Yarn in colors aubergine and snow white (affiliate)  It is all together about 200 to 250 yards. So you need one skein of each, but you will not use it all.
    • Hair tie

    Gauge:

    4 wst x 4 rows = 1 square inch

    Special Stitches:

    • Waistcoat stitch (wst) (tutorial HERE)
    • fpdc, bpdc (tutorial HERE)

    Instructions:

Starting with a 5.0mm hook and the aubergine yarn

Holding the hair tie in one hand, make 30 sc around the hair tie, sl st to the first st (30 sts)

So sorry, I will add it. It is all together about 200 to 250 yards. So you need one skein of each, but you will not use it all.

Is there a better way to hide the white yarn on the inside of the hat? The snowflakes are so spread out that the white yarn lays like a straight line in the inside of the beanie.
