This is a free crochet pattern for creating Christmas Baskets. There are three different sizes for the baskets. Photos are included.

What are you going to make this holiday season? No idea? No problem! How about baskets? Baskets are the perfect quick-win makes to create for yourself or as gifts. Whether for decoration or for storage, baskets have so many uses seasonal and year-round!

To learn how to make three different-sized baskets, please continue to the pattern.

When I think of Christmas presents, I always think of ways to create and make things as gifts rather than having to buy something for someone. However, when you have a lot of things to make, even for craft fairs, you want to make something that goes quick and is easy.

This free crochet pattern is not just easy, but it is also super fast. I made 3 baskets in 1 day and I took a lot of breaks in between to take care of daily chores and duties as a mom and wife. So, I am sure you can get many more done in one day than me, especially because mine included designing the baskets also.

The baskets are made with t-shirt yarn which the perfect yarn to make baskets or bags with if you need sturdiness as one of you many features. The yarn I used specifically was made using recycled t-shirts and therefore have different thickness.

For a couple of my baskets I used the same amount of beginning chains, but I ended up having different size baskets even though the hook size was the same. I loved that effect. It was like a surprise you did not anticipated.

So, when seeing the pattern, you should definitely keep in mind that my yarn effect the pattern and therefore the size of the baskets.

Let’s talk about the yarn for a moment. I got the yarn from the Etsy Store “Perfect Yarn”. They make the recycled t-shirt yarn themselves and therefore will be unique every time you purchase it.

So let’s get right into the pattern! One little side note; I need you to ignore the gauge for these baskets, as I mentioned the thickness is different for each color and you will not be able to match it every time. As it is a basket, just go with what you need it for and enjoy the yarn and the final product.

    Instructions

    Large Basket

    Start with the color Bordeaux

Row 1: Ch 16, 1 sc in in the 2nd ch from the hook and all the other chs, ch 1, turn (15 sts)

    Row 2 – 15: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn (15 sts)

After row 15, do not turn, but change the color to Red.

Round 1: ch 1, 1 sc evenly all around, sl st to first st (59 sts for me)

Round 2 – 6: ch 1, 1 sc evenly all around, sl st to first st (59 sts for me)

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

    Medium basket

Start with the color Dark Blue

Row 1: Ch 15, 1 sc in in the 2nd ch from the hook and all the other chs, ch 1, turn (14 sts)

    Row 2 – 15: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn (15 sts)

After row 15, do not turn, but change the color to Green.

Round 1: ch 1, 1 sc evenly all around, sl st to first st (56 sts for me)

Round 2 – 10: ch 1, 1 sc evenly all around, sl st to first st (56 sts for me)

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

    Small basket

    Start with the color Yellow

Row 1: Ch 15, 1 sc in in the 2nd ch from the hook and all the other chs, ch 1, turn (14 sts)

    Row 2 – 15: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn (15 sts)

After row 15, do not turn, but change the color to White.

Round 1: ch 1, 1 sc evenly all around, sl st to first st (38 sts for me)

Round 2 – 9: ch 1, 1 sc evenly all around, sl st to first st (38 sts for me)

Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Please remember, that my stitch count is according to the thickness of the yarn I received. I wanted the large one to be wide, but not tall. The medium basket is a bit larger, but not as wide as the large one and the small basket is the tallest, but also the thinnest in width of all the baskets.

I hope you enjoy the pattern as much as I did making them.

I made another baskets with a multi-colored t-shirt yarn. If you have not seen it, please click HERE to check it out!

Please share the pattern link on social media. Thank you!

Yes, it is. It is very sturdy and stands on their own. Thanks for your question.
