Round up of 10 stylish crochet hot pad patterns to make for your kitchen. Add a touch of style to your home with these quick and easy crochet hot pads.

Crochet items are not always just about aesthetics. There are many functional and practical items you can make with crochet.

Amongst many others, crochet hot pad or trivet is one of those. I think these are great makes that work up quickly. Great projects for beginners and advanced crocheters alike.

The great thing about making your own crochet hot pad is that you can totally customize it. Whether it is custom colors to fit in with your kitchen decor or the style of the hot pad, you can totally make it your own.

Although there are many great patterns, a crochet hot pad is also a great project if you wanted to freestyle it. However, you need to remember a few things.

3 Tips to Crochet Hot Pad Patterns

1. Use 100% Cotton Yarn

Firstly, make sure to use 100% cotton yarn. Cotton yarn is plant-based and the most important quality is that it won’t melt when exposed to heat. It is also easy to keep clean as it can be washed at very high temperatures. Cotton yarn also doesn’t stretch and get out of shape.

Here are different Cotton Yarns I love and recommend:

2. Crochet Stitch that have NO gaps or holes

Secondly, use a very tight crochet stitch that has no holes or gaps. This is to protect your fingers or work surfaces. If you use open stitches, make sure to use super bulky yarn so it is thick.

3. Thick Crochet Texture

Thirdly, make sure your crochet hot pad is super thick. I suggest making a double-thick hot pad by folding the fabric over or making two separate pieces. You can then sew these together with an extra layer of heat-resistant material in the middle.

Double Thick Diagonal Pot Holder

This great crochet potholder uses linked crochet stitches. Using Linked Crochet allows you to remove the gaps that are usually created when crocheting regular crochet stitches.

With linked crochet, you connect a just-made stitch with a new stitch during the “yarn over” part of a stitch before even inserting your hook into the next stitch.

The patterns are worked in rounds into a square shape, then folded over diagonally. This creates double-thick fabric perfect for potholders.

30 Minute Trivet Pattern

As the name suggests this is one of the quickest projects to make. As you can see this trivet is a little different as it uses open lacy stitches.

That means you can only use it as a hot pad placed on your table or work surface. You will not be able to carry a hot pot with it.

Although it has open stitches, it uses bulky, #6 weight cotton yarn. That makes an extra thick hot pad that will lift the hot pot off the surface and protect it.
