The Advent Wreath is a free crochet pattern with 6 video tutorials and is perfect for the Christmas and Holiday season.

It is almost Christmas time which means everyone will decorate their homes. In Europe and in many other parts of the world, one specific tradition is very important and makes every child excited for Christmas even more which is the Advent Wreath which for I made a free crochet pattern for.

Before I provide you with the pattern, let me explain to you the history of the advent wreath and how it is used. The Advent Wreath has 4 candles which are lit one by one each Sunday in the 4 weeks before Christmas Eve. The candles specifically symbolize the Christian concepts of hope (week one), peace (week two), joy (week three) and love (week four) in many traditions.

Sometimes the Advent Wreath comes with a 5th candle in the middle that is lit on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, although not many families use the 5th candle, at least I do not know anyone used one while I grew up in Germany. If you would like to read more of this wonderful tradition, please click HERE.

So, if you would check out a European calendar you would see that the 4 weeks of Advent are actually written on every Sunday before Christmas Eve. Lighting the candles on a Advent Wreath made the kids very excited because they knew how many more weeks they have to wait till they can finally open their presents.

I always enjoyed this tradition and still use it in my family here in the United States. In fact, one of the first things I made when I came to the U.S. was a Advent wreath with pine needles and decorations plus the 4 candles all around.
