Advent Wreath for Christmas Free Crochet Pattern by Nicki's Homemade Crafts This traditional Advent Wreath is perfect for the Christmas Time. One candle is lit every Sunday before Christmas. #Crochet #advent #wreath #crochetpattern #free #christmas

It is almost Christmas time which means everyone will decorate their homes. In Europe and in many other parts of the world, one specific tradition is very important and makes every child excited for Christmas even more which is the Advent Wreath which for I made a free crochet pattern for.

Before I provide you with the pattern, let me explain to you the history of the advent wreath and how it is used. The Advent Wreath has 4 candles which are lit one by one each Sunday in the 4 weeks before Christmas Eve. The candles specifically symbolize the Christian concepts of hope (week one), peace (week two), joy (week three) and love (week four) in many traditions.

Sometimes the Advent Wreath comes with a 5th candle in the middle that is lit on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, although not many families use the 5th candle, at least I do not know anyone used one while I grew up in Germany. If you would like to read more of this wonderful tradition, please click HERE.

So, if you would check out a European calendar you would see that the 4 Advents are actually written on every Sunday before Christmas Eve. Lighting the candles on a Advent Wreath made the kids very excited because they know how many more weeks they have to wait till they can finally open their presents.

I always enjoyed this tradition and still have and use it in my family here in the United States. In fact, one of the first things I made when I came to the U.S. was a Advent wreath with pine needles and decorations plus the 4 candles all around.

This pattern was kindly sponsored by my friends at Lion Brand Yarn. Please go to their Facebook page and say THANK YOU!

Well, let me now show you how you can crochet your own Advent Wreath. This Advent Wreath comes with many pictures and 6 videos showing you every part of this pattern. Therefore this pattern is very very long.

Round 4: ch 1, *1 sc, 1 sc, 1 sc inc, repeat from * all around, sl st to the 1st st (40 sts)

(see picture 2)

Prep the Foam Insert by cutting off the small piece on the bottom (Picture 5) and making a 2 inch (diameter) by 1 inch (height) hole on the smaller side of the foam insert (Picture 6).

Add the foam insert to the large candle piece and sew the small candle piece to the bottom of the candle (picture 3). Now you can add your flameless candle to the top (picture 4 – 5).

Assembly of the Advent Wreath:

Sew or use hot glue the 4 candles equally spaced from each other to the top of the wreath (they already have the bows sewn on) (picture 1 does now show the bows, but shows how to space them). Then sew 1 star, 1 set of holly’s and 1 pinecone each between the candles on to the empty spaces (picture 2).

Now you are done and can enjoy your Advent Wreath. There is no video for the assembly.
