The holiday season is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than by crafting your own unique Christmas stocking? While stockings are a beloved tradition in many parts of the world, they’re not as common where I come from in Germany. That’s why I designed this special Christmas stocking pattern, filled with festive motifs, to share the joy of this holiday craft with others. Inspired by the timeless symbols of Christmas—bells, trees, and ornaments—this stocking brings warmth, charm, and a touch of intricate crochet techniques to your home.

Originally designed as a Mystery Crochet Along, this pattern has now become a cherished project that many crocheters have enjoyed. Written Pattern Notes
Keep in mind, that this pattern used to be a Mystery CAL, and therefore the pattern is broken up as such.
Quick note: First you’ll crochet the middle part of the foot, the cuff, the leg part and then the heel, before sewing it all together and crochet the toes of the stocking. Finally, you’ll also crochet a cable ornament as a pom pom replacement.

R8: (1 sc in 4 sts, 1 dec) 3 times
R9: (1 sc in 3 sts, 1 dec) 3 times
Weave through all front loops, pull and close the hole
Assembly for the Stocking
First, fold the linked crochet heel and half and sew one edge, close to the fold, together.
Now, lay the pointed closed corner outwards and put the foot piece below and sew the linked crochet piece to 17 stitches (half a round) of the foot piece.
Next, sew the linked crochet piece to 17 stitches to the bottom of the mosaic crochet leg piece. And sew the rest of the 17 sts of the mosaic crochet piece to the 17 sts of the foot piece.
Fold the thermal crochet piece and half and sew the short ends together. Sew the inside “left over front loops” to the top mosaic crochet piece.
Add a hanger (I used a leather strap (I used this one – click to see), punch holes in it (with this leather hole puncher – click to see), and sew it on).
Cable Ornament – white yarn
I used this 2.5 inch plastic bauble but you can also fill it with polyfill!
ALL first DC sts are made as ATC sts!
R1: Magic ring, 6 sc, sl st
R2: 2 sc per st, sl st
R3: (1 sc, 2 sc) 6 times, sl st
R4: (1 dc in 2 sts, 2 dc) 6 times, sl st
You’ll start the cables now. If you prefer not to have gaps before and after the cable, please see the video tutorial for a quick tip and adjustment to the pattern.
R5: (1 dc, sk 2 sts, 1 FPTR in 2 sts, 1 FPTR in both skipped sts, 1 dc) 6 times
R6: (1 dc, 1 FPDC in 4 sts, 1 dc) 6 times
Repeat R5-6 once
R7: (1 sc in 2 sts, 1 dec) 6 times
Insert ornament bauble
R8: (1 sc, 1 dec) 6 times
Weave yarn through front loops, and pull and close the hole around the ornament hanger.
Attach the ornament to the stocking hanger or Christmas tree.
