When you’re gifting a bottle of wine, dress it up with this festive Christmas tree crochet wine bottle holder. It protects the bottle and adds a warm, personal touch to your gift!
It’s day two of the 2023 Advent Calendar Mystery Crochet Along! Each day, from December 1st through December 24th, I’ll be posting one of these free patterns for awesome gifts right here on my blog. These small crochet projects work up quickly so you can make something for everyone on your list. You never know what the pattern will be, so make sure you come back every day to discover a new surprise!
Today, I’m excited to share this gorgeous crochet wine bottle cover pattern. It uses the waistcoat stitch (sometimes called center single crochet), which creates a sleek, knit-like fabric, reminiscent of your favorite cozy Christmas sweaters or knitted scarves.
And what holiday design is more iconic than Christmas trees? You’ll create this elegant Christmas tree motif using the fair isle technique and changing between red yarn and white. If you’ve never tried fair isle before, the color changes are simple and I’ve included a video tutorial to guide you through the pattern. So it’s perfectly doable, even for someone with an advanced beginner skill level.
This wine bottle gift bag is the perfect project when you need a hostess gift for your next holiday house party or a Christmas meal. It holds a standard 750 ml bottle of wine. But for a non-alcoholic alternative that the whole family can enjoy, you could substitute any similar glass bottle, like sparkling cider, depending on the preferences of your gift recipient. What a great way to show your gratitude to your host!

Remember to repeat round 33 until you reach round 48!
Then follow the written pattern for the handle!
Adding the Handle
Now let’s crochet the handle.
Due to the waistcoat stitch turning and moving the image a bit, you need to pull and stretch your project now before starting the handles.
Then flatten your project. Add stitch markers 10 stitches away from each other, on both sides. Like the video and image show:

R49: crochet 1 wst per st until you hit the first stitch marker, ch 15, sk 10, start again where the next stitch marker is, continue 1 wst per st until you hit the next stitch marker, ch 15, sk 10, start again where the next stitch marker is, continue 1 wst per st until the end of the round
R50: 1 wst per st, crochet loose single crochet stitches on top of all the chains, continue with 1 wst per st, crochet loose single crochet stitches on top of all the chains, finish with 1 wst per st until the end of the round
R51: 1 wst per st all around until the last st, fasten off
