This Classic Ornament Bauble Ball free crochet pattern features easy-to-follow basic crochet stitches, such that even a beginner can crochet it. This free crochet pattern is made with cotton worsted-weight yarn and includes 1 detailed video tutorial.
Being from Germany, Christmas Time has always been special. Although I opened presents on Christmas Eve when I grew up, we also decorated the Christmas Tree in the morning of Christmas Eve. That is a very common tradition, as we typically use real Christmas trees that should last till January 6th.
My parents and brother in Germany always decorated the Christmas Tree with elegant silver glass ornaments (many from Lauscha where most handmade glass-blown ornaments are from). But although I miss Germany and its Christmas Traditions, I also love the new ones I learned and made in the US. Now, I use an artificial Christmas Tree we put up the day after Thanksgiving and decorate it with many handmade ornaments, just like this Classic Ornament Bauble.
Classic Christmas Ornament Bauble Ball
This Classic or Old-Fashioned Ornament Bauble Ball is made with just single crochet stitches, some increases and decreases, plus a couple of color changes. Easy! The zig zag lines are sewn on with golden yarn to really make this ornament shine.
Although I designed this pattern with zig-zag lines, I also believe the white section in the middle makes a great area to embroider (or use fabric paint) names or words on. You can really make it unique and special for every member of the family.
This pattern used to be a mystery crochet along and is broken up like that accordingly. In fact, this ornament was part of 3 Mystery Crochet Along Ornaments; the other 2 ornaments are the Icicles Ornament and LED Light Ornament.
It’s time to get creative, so let’s get started!

Now you’ll stop for a moment and sew on the yellow gold accent zig zag lines.
Add about 3-4 feet of yarn to your needle, then insert from the back to the front add the first st you crocheted in white (of R11). Then count 6 rounds up and 2 sts to the right, and insert the needle there. Then from the back to the front insert needle 6 sts 2 the left (so there are 6 sts between the yellow sts).
Then count 6 sts to the left on the last bottom (R11) st and insert the needle there. Then go back up and repeat the process until the end.
Watch the video if this is not clear to you.
Once you’re done knot the yarn, weave in ends, or let it hang on the inside, and then continue crocheting with red.
