Need a special and unique ornament? We had many of them growing up. Christmas Time has always been special for me since I’m from Germany. Although I opened presents on Christmas Eve when I grew up, we also decorated the Christmas Tree on the morning of Christmas Eve. That is a very common tradition, as we typically use real Christmas trees that should last till January 6th.
My parents and brother in Germany always decorated the Christmas Tree with elegant silver glass ornaments (many from Lauscha where most handmade glass-blown ornaments are from). But although I miss Germany and its Christmas Traditions, I also love the new ones I learned and made in the US. Now, I use an artificial Christmas Tree we put up the day after Thanksgiving and decorate it with many handmade ornaments, just like this LED Light Ornament Bauble.
LED Light Granny Stitch Christmas Ornament Bauble Ball
This LED Light Ornament Bauble Ball is made with mostly double crochet stitches, some increases and decreases, and pretty much features the granny stitch all around. Easy! This is a fast ornament to crochet and you can really add anything inside to show it off, it doesn’t need to be an LED Light.
To make sure you can add something inside, you’ll need to harden the ornament, but that is not very hard to do using a balloon, some glue, water and patience.
This pattern used to be a mystery crochet along and is broken up like that accordingly. In fact, this ornament was part of 3 Mystery Crochet Along Ornaments; the other 2 ornaments are the Classic Ornament and Icicles Ornament.
It’s time to get creative, so let’s get started!

Written Pattern Notes
Keep in mind, that this pattern used to be a Mystery CAL, and therefore the pattern is broken up as such.
Quick note: First you’ll crochet the granny stitch ornament, then harden it around a balloon, pop the balloon, and add a tea light (or something else) on the inside.
If you don’t want to harden the ornament, you can also optionally put a plastic bauble on the inside (maybe add fun stuff on the inside of the bauble, too). But personally, I prefer the hardened ornament with light inside 🙂

Weave through the front loops of the last rounds sts, pull, and close the hole.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Add a balloon on the inside, and blow it up to make the crochet rounded. Create an 80% glue to 20% water (or 90:10) mixture and soak the crochet with it.
Let it air dry to harden it. Then pop the balloon.
Add a tea light inside (or something else), and add a yarn piece to hang it up on your Christmas Tree.
