Carnation Flower Crochet Pattern Video Tutorial

Before you start crocheting your carnation flower, I recommend watching the detailed tutorial video below

Crochet Carnation – Written Instructions

Pattern Notes:

For continuous rounds, use a stitch marker unless otherwise mentioned.

If R has no “turn” mentioned, it’s a ROUND (if no sl st mentioned, it’s a continuous round), if it is mentioned, it’s a “ROW”.

I used hot glue in some places for the assembly of the flowers. In some cases you can sew it instead, in other places (like the lavender) glue is required or it will not work well. However, you could use different glue, I just prefer hot glue as it dries quickly.

You crochet around the 22 gauge wire.

2 gauge wire is the “stem” of the plants.

Pattern Instructions

Carnation

Premier Anti-Pilling Yarn – white

WeCrochet Brava – peapod (leaves)

Lion Brand Heartland yarn – redwood

Flower head – white first

R1: MR, 6 sc, use stitch marker for continuous rounds

R2-4: 1 sc per st

R5: [1 ATC, 2 dc] same st, 3 dc per st

R6-7: 3 dc per st

cut white, start redwood

R8: 1 sc per st, fasten off, only weave in end for yarn piece after the last st, NOT the one from the MR, you’ll need that one

Sepal – peapod

R1: MR, 8 sc, use stitch marker for continuous rounds

R2-5: 1 sc per st

R6: 2 sc per st

R7: 1 sc per st, fasten off, only weave in end for yarn piece after the last st, NOT the one from the MR, you’ll need that one

Weave the white yarn end piece through the MR of the green sepal, push 2 gauge wire through BOTH MR’s (white and green). Hot glue the end of the wire from the top of the Carnation (push waves of pedals to the side to reach the center) to the white area of R1-4.

Then hot glue the white area (outside) to the inside of the green sepal.

2 Leaves – peapod

Ch 14, start from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc in 3 sts, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, fasten off and weave in ends.

Assembly

Wrap floral tape from the base of the sepal down, add the leaves (push through the center of the leaves) where you want them to be, keep wrapping the floral tape until the end. Shorten or bend the 2 gauge wire and wrap floral tape over it until you’re satisfied.
