This beginner-friendly crochet pattern is made with just worsted weight yarn, floral wire, and floral tape to create realistic stems that can be arranged into a beautiful bouquet. I’ve also included a detailed step-by-step video tutorial so you can crochet right along with me, making it easy even if you’ve never made crochet flowers before.

So, let me now give you the supplies you need in order to crochet this fun project.
Free Crochet Rose and Rosebud Pattern
Materials you will need
less than 1 skein per color
- Lion Brand Heartland Worsted Yarn (100% acrylic, 251yd, 142g)
- Redwood
- Kings Canyon
- 4mm hook
- 22 Gauge Wire and Pliers
- Floral Tape
- This set has floral tape, 22 gauge wires and pliers together
- 2 gauge wire
- scissors
- tapestry needle
- Hot glue
Gauge
4 sts x 4 rounds = 1 square inch
Size
about 12 inches tall
Stitches used in the pattern
Learn all the basic crochet stitches HERE (US crochet terms and abbreviations)
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- ch = chain
- sk = skip
- sl st = slip stitch (or invisible sl st – see video)
- MR = magic ring (think loosened slip knot)
- inc = increase
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- tr = treble crochet
- dtr = double treble crochet
- ATC = Alternative Turning Chain
- BLO = back loop only
- FLO = front loop only
- inv sc dec (rounds) or regular sc dec (rows)

Crochet Rose and Rosebud – Written Instructions
Pattern Notes:
For continuous rounds, use a stitch marker unless otherwise mentioned.
If R has no “turn” mentioned, it’s a ROUND (if no sl st mentioned, it’s a continuous round), if it is mentioned, it’s a “ROW”.
I used hot glue in some places for the assembly of the flowers. In some cases you can sew it instead, in other places (like the lavender) glue is required or it will not work well. However, you could use different glue, I just prefer hot glue as it dries quickly.
You crochet around the 22 gauge wire.
2 gauge wire is the “stem” of the plants.
Pattern Instructions
Rosebud and Open Rose
Lion Brand Heartland Yarn – Red for the rose pedals, green for the leaves and sepal
Small Rose Pedals (3)
R1: MR, 6 sc, continuous rounds, use a stitch marker
R2: 2 sc per st
R3: (1 hdc, 2 hdc) x 6, fasten off, weave in ends
Medium Rose Pedals (3)
R1: MR, 6 sc, continuous rounds, use a stitch marker
R2: 2 sc per st
R3: (1 sc, 2 sc) x 6
R4: (1 sc in 2 sts, 2 sc) x 6, fasten off and weave in ends
Large Rose Pedals (5) only for the open rose
R1: MR, 6 sc, continuous rounds, use a stitch marker
R2: 2 sc per st
R3: (1 sc, 2 sc) x 6
R4: (1 hdc in 2 sts, 2 hdc) x 6, fasten off and weave in ends
Sepal
R1: MR, 10 sc, leave about 1 cm hole when closing the circle, sl st
R2: (ch 6, start from 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc, 1 hdc in 2 sts, 1 dc in 2 sts, sk 1 st from circle, 1 sl st to the next st) x 5, sl st, fasten off and weave in ends
Leaves (3 per set – make as many sets as you like per rose)
R1: ch 6, using the 22 gauge wire, cut a piece and crochet around it and the chain at the same time, start from 2nd ch from the hook, 1 ATC, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sc, ch 2, then work on the opposite side of the chain, 1 sc, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 dc, ch 3, sl sts, fasten off, cut yarn to about 2 inches (no need to weave in)
Assembly
Start with the small pedals, and the 2 gauge wire, glue the first small pedal around the wire, then keep adding small pedals around it (watch video for that step), then add the medium pedals the same way, for an open rose, add the large pedals too
Push the sepal in from the bottom, pull closed the hole and also glue it to the bottom of the rose, then start using the floral tape and wrap it around the yarn and wire right below the sepal until you want to add the leaf set, add the leave set and continue wrapping, then fold the bottom wire in half or 1/3 upward and continue wrapping until everything is covered
Wrap floral tape around the end of the leaf and yarn (do this for each leaf), then combine 3 leaves together keeping about 1.5 inches room from the bottom of the each leaf, then keep wrapping floral tape until the end so it’s ready to be added to the rose
