This festive crochet pillow pattern features the stunning harlequin stitch. The pillow cover includes a pocket that’s perfect for holding a book.

Welcome to day 6 of our fun Advent Calendar Mystery Crochet Along. I’ve been releasing a post every day since the 1st of December and the fun won’t stop until the 24th. There’s a stitch tutorial on all odd days and a free pattern on all even days. These fun surprise projects are perfect for Christmas gifts.

Our 3rd such project is just the thing after learning about the Harlequin Stitch yesterday. This brightly colored crochet pillow pattern will add a touch of handmade charm to your Christmas decor. The best part is that it includes a pocket that can hold a book – perfect for bedtime stories!

This pattern uses budget-friendly acrylic yarn in bright colors for a festive flair. There will be plenty of yarn left over from each jumbo-size skein.

The harlequin stitch makes this pillow feel extra special because it is just so stunning. It might look a little tricky, but it’s easier than you think.

So let’s get started!

Repeat R2-5 for the pattern until you have 44 color stripes.

Finish last color with 3 rows.

Fold the rectangle over the pillow insert, such that the short ends lay on top of each other in opposite directions (aka make a pocket).

Sew open sides together to complete your cushion cover (I used the mattress stitch but you could also use the whip stitch).
