Instructions for the Tunisian Crochet Brick Stitch
Before you start crocheting the Gingerbread House Purse Bag and the Placemat, (only ONE of these two will get published for FREE tomorrow via the Advent Calendar MCAL), let’s first go through the stitch tutorial and learn how to crochet this stitch.
To make a swatch to practice this stitch, make a chain with a multiple of 4 + 1 (with color A) using a Tunisian Crochet Hook.
Color A
R1-F: start from the 2nd ch from the hook and pull up a loop from each chain (to make TSS – Tunisian Simple Stitches).
R1-R: yarn over pull through 1 loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops for the rest of the row, change colors during the last yarn over and pull through
Color B
R2-F: 1 TSS per st
R2-R: repeat R1-R
Color A
R3-F: *1 TSS in 3 sts, 1 FPTDC (Front Post Tunisian Double Crochet – 2 rows down around the 2 vertical bars of one stitch), repeat from * until the end, last st is a TSS (edge st)
R3-R: repeat R1-R
Color B
R4: repeat R2
Color A
R5-F: 1 TSS, 1 FPTDC, *1 TSS in 3 sts, 1 FPTDC (Front Post Tunisian Double Crochet – 2 rows down around the 2 vertical bars of one stitch), repeat from * until the last 2 sts, 1 TSS in each
R5-R: repeat R1-R
Repeat R2-5 for the pattern
