Free Crochet Reindeer Mug Rug Pattern – Day 2 of the Advent Calendar MCAL 2024

This fun Reindeer Mug Rug is a free crochet pattern that uses the crochet knit stitch as well as cotton yarn.

For the first pattern for this special event, after learning the Crochet Knit Stitch yesterday, we have the Reindeer Mug Rug available free to view for you on this page. Once you learn how to crochet the knit stitch and the color changes involves you will have no problems crocheting the Reindeer Mug Rug.
This pattern uses cotton yarn for durability and heat protection, but it could also be made with acrylic yarn as long as you don’t use it as a pot pad or potholder.
Using a simple graph and written pattern any crocheter can crochet this fun Christmas pattern.

How to Crochet Reindeer Mug Rug Pattern
Materials you will need
- Premier Cotton Sprout Yarn (worsted, 100 g/180 yds)
- Cardinal (r)
- White (w)
- 4.5 mm hook – WeCrochet Dots Crochet Hook
- Scissors
- tapestry needle
- Optionally: cutting board and rotary cutter to cut straight fringe
Gauge
4 sts x 4 rows = 1 square inch
Size
8 x 4 inches (not measuring the fringe)
Stitches used in the pattern
Learn all the basic crochet stitches HERE (US crochet terms)
- st/sts = stitch/stitches
- ch = chain
- sl st = slip stitch
- sc = single crochet
- wst = waistcoat stitch (crochet knit stitch)

Instructions for the Reindeer Mug Rug
Follow the graph or the written pattern (mentions colors per st), but make sure to check out the stitch tutorial with color changes shown on the previous pages.
The graph will be on the BELOW to make sure it’s big enough to see all the stitches.
Cut yarn after each row, carry ALL colors IF there are color changes with in a row FROM the first st of the row.
Ch 32, start from 2nd ch from the hook

Cut fringe evenly with rotary cutter and a cutting board OR weave in ends. Blcok your work to prevent curling.
