This adorable crochet gingerbread house purse is the sweetest addition to your collection of winter accessories – perfect for running holiday errands.
It’s time to celebrate day 8 of the Advent Calendar Mystery Crochet Along. If this is your first time here, then you might not know what I’m talking about. Well, it’s this really fun and festive event where I release a pattern or a stitch tutorial every day from the 1st of December until Christmas Eve!
Today’s post is the 4th free project of the event – a crochet gingerbread house purse that you will want to take with you on all of your holiday errands. This pattern uses the Tunisian crochet brick stitch tutorial that was posted yesterday, so be sure to check it out if you haven’t already.
The Tunisian crochet brick stitch creates the perfect walls for your crochet gingerbread house purse using two different shades of brown yarn. We will also be using the crocodile stitch to create the frosting shingles for the roof.
Just like the gingerbread house-building kits you can buy at the store (minus the calories) the most fun part of this project is the decorating! Unlike those kits, you won’t have to worry about this project going stale.
So let’s get started!
All Advent Calendar Mystery CAL Stitches + Patterns
As you may know, this collection also includes another pattern using the crochet knit stitch. It’s the Tunisian Crochet Brick Stitch Placemat. That pattern is currently only available in the ebook “Last Minute Crochet Gifts Made Easy Vol 3”.
This Holiday Season is very special! The Advent Calendar Mystery Crochet Along includes 12 free stitch tutorials (with videos) and 12 free crochet gift patterns. But there are actually 24 patterns. But you don’t know which odd day each stitch tutorial and which 1 of 2 stitch-related patterns gets published on the following even days.
But you can get all of them (12 stitches and 24 patterns) with instant access right now as an AD-FREE and PRINTER-FRIENDLY ebook. Use the code GIFTS10 to save $10 until December 24th, 2024 HERE!!!

Assembly
Sew the bottom to the main body. Keeping the Tunisian Crochet pieces seam to a corner of the bag bottom.
Now focus on the insert (fabric plus plastic canvas).
Lay the ironed fabric wrong side up and place the plastic canvas pieces on top.
First do the side ones. So cut each corner (fabric and plastic canvas) diagonally, then fold each overhanging fabric over the plastic canvas and hot glue together.
Once you’re done with the side pieces, focus on the big main piece.
Cut the corners again for the fabric and plastic canvases. AND once laid out (this order: roof, side, bottom, side, roof), cut little triangles where the connection from one plastic canvas to another is (separated by 0.25inches), like this:
Be aware the rooftop pieces are bit larger than the rest of the pieces, so your cut out triangles may be larger on sides pieces.
Now, hot glue all overlapping fabric to the plastic canvases (I also hot glued the plastic canvas to the fabric too (so the center parts, not just the edges).
Once you’re done, you have 3 pieces like the following image.
Place the long large piece inside the crochet bag (plastic canvas side to the inside crochet, hot glue or sew together.
Lay the side pieces to the inside of the bag as well, hot glue to the crochet and also the edges of the main piece (so it doesn’t move around).
Now, sew the rooftop pieces to the top front and back panel, then sew or hot glue the plastic canvas to the rooftop pieces.
Now it’s time to decorate the Gingerbread House.
Sew the garland ties to the rooftop, sew or hot glue the fairy tale yarn to the ALL the edges of the Gingerbread house.
Add (glue, crochet or sew) white yarn pieces (as a + sign) to the windows. Sew or hot glue the windows and door to the gingerbread house.
Finally add (I hot glued them) 3D stickers (or crochet and sew them on) all over the Gingerbread house. See the images below.
