Free Crochet Chutes and Ladders Pattern
Materials you will need
- Lion Brand Pound of Love (worsted acrylic, 454g/1020yd)
- White
- Grey
- Chocolate
- WeCrochet Brava Yarn (Worsted Weight, 100% Acrylic, 218yd/100g)
- Brown
- Sky
- Yellow
- Red
- Blue
- Green
- 5.5 mm hook for the game board (WeCrochet Dots hook)
- 4mm hook (WeCrochet Dots hook)
- Hot glue
- Rhinestones for the die
- 2.5 cm Foam Numbers
- Googly Eyes
Gauge
4 sts x 4 rows = 1 square inch
Size
17 x 19 inches
Stitches used in the pattern
Learn all the basic crochet stitches HERE (US crochet terms and abbreviations)
- MR = magic ring
- sc = single crochet
- sts = stitches
- ch = chain
- inc = increase
- dec = decrease (inv = invisible through 2 front loops – shown in video)
- tr = treble crochet
- ATC = Alternative Turning Chain
- fsc = foundation single crochet (chain + sc row)

Instructions
Game Board (all pound of love)
Start with grey, ch 61, start from the 2nd ch from the hook
R1-72: 1 sc per st, turn
You’ll crochet *12 sts in in grey, then 12 sts in white, repeat from * until the end
After every 12 rows you’ll switch the order from grey to white, and white to grey to create a checkered pattern for a total of 30 boxes.
Brown Border:
R1:1 sc per st or row and 3 sc per corner, sl st
R2-3: 1 sc per st, 3 sc per corner, sl st
Ladders (2 short, 1 long)
Brava Brown
Ch 30 (long) or 21 (short), start from the 2nd ch from the hook
R1: 1 sc per ch, turn
R2: 1 sl st in 2 sts, 1 ATC (height of tr), *ch 2, sk 2, 1 tr, repeat from *, finish with ch 3, sk 2, start from the 2nd ch from the hook, then go to the next row
R3: 1 sc per st or ch, finish with 2 fsc at the end, fasten off
Snakes (2 short, 1 long)
Brava Sky
R1: MR, 3 sc, close the ring, continuous rounds, use a stitch marker
R2: 2 sc per st
R3: 1 sc per st
Repeat R3 until 5 or 6.5 inches
R4: 2 sc per st
R5-6: 1 sc per st
R7: inv sc dec all around, (optionally add a pipecleaner for bending, but not needed) close the hole, fasten off
Glue on the googly eyes
4 Game Pieces (can make more of course)
Blue, yellow, green, red Brava yarn
R1: 6 sc, close the hole, continuous rounds, stitch marker
R2: 1 sc per st
R3: inv sc dec all around
R4: 2 sc per st
R5: (1 sc, 2 sc) x 3, fasten off
1 White Die
Crochet 6 squares
R1: MR, 8 sc, close the hole, sl st
R2: (1 sc, 3 sc) x 4, sl st
Fasten off
Sew together the 6 squares using the whip stitch, stuff with yarn ends or stuffing.
Glue on the rhinestones for the numbers
Assembly:
Glue on the numbers in a zig zag pattern, per block on the game board.
Glue on the ladders and snakes. Make sure the snakes point down to the lower numbers, as that is part of the game (chutes).
