Summary of Episode 16 with Ashley
Ashley shared a funny story about how she started crocheting with her grandmother. She also picked up knitting for a little while.
After she had her first daughter, Ashley had a real craving to learn something for herself, to keep her occupied. She fell in love with crochet all over again.
She brushed up her skills after taking a crochet class and turned it into a business selling finished makes.
However, making the same thing over and over, Ashley realized it was not for her. She then went on to teach crochet, started her blog, and designed patterns.
Her very first published pattern was a hat, however, Ashley has a stunning collection of amigurumi patterns. Ashley even revealed which one is her favorite!
I especially love her designs with faux fur yarn as it creates super cute makes. Ashley also shares a great tip on how to work with faux fur yarn and I totally agree with her.
I laughed when Ashley shared her thought process behind some of her doll designs. She wanted to get into adult crochet garment design. However, her audience prefers garments for the crochet dolls she designs.
Ashley shared a few tips and tricks on how to get great and clean-looking pictures for her website. I was amused when Ashley shared a funny story about her “garbage light”.
Ashley caters to her audience and designs what they want to see. However, sometimes the inspiration is stronger, so Ashley does not fight it.
Amongst other things, Ashley loves to read books in her spare time and crochet some more.
I laughed when Ashley shared a funny story about her daughter sneaking into her office! Can you guess what she got up to?
We laughed when Ashley shared a little behind-the-scenes of her blanket design which is nearly two years old. However, Ashley has never woven the ends in! I can totally relate to that! The great thing is, you could not even tell from the photos.
I asked Ashley for a few tips on choosing the best yarn for her amigurumi and she shared a few valuable tips which you should definitely follow.
