Summary of Episode 9 with Kristin

Kristin starts talking about how she started designing. She started drawing wedding dresses as a little girl and even got into architecture at one point.

But it wasn’t until she fell pregnant with her son that she had an overwhelming desire to learn to knit and crochet. She was keen to crochet baby booties for her son.

Kristin was living in the Middle East at the time and remembers what lengths she had to go to to get some materials and resources to learn.

She had to jump through a lot of hoops to learn in the time before internet and Youtube video tutorials.

However, a few years and tears later, Kristin is glad that she has stuck with it! The “problem solver” in her would not allow her to quit!

Stitching has helped Kristin tremendously during tough times in her life. When she realized she can combine her love of algebra and geometry with yarn crafts, there was no stopping her.

I laughed when Kristin said how she used to shape items and decrease them. Guess what she did instead of crocheting two stitches together?

I was amazed when Kristin explained how she sees patterns in everyday things and translates them into knitting and crochet lace patterns. She even wore this crochet earring pattern and these dress sleeves.

Sitting in her RV as we spoke, Kristin talked about the shocking and emotional back story of how she had to make some tough decisions.

Kristin learned a lot about herself going through these changes and how adaptable she is in her life.

I was so amazed when Kristin shared a story that involved Jessica Simpson and a crochet shawl. It was a defining moment in her career.

Kristin is passionately curious about anything and everything. That’s why it is hard for her to answer a question about any other hobbies.

Kristin talks about her brand new book Crochet Power – Making Stitch Patterns Work For You.

It is not just a stitch dictionary, this book is a way for crafters to empower their creative spirit to explore the craft on their own.

Each stitch pattern is shown in four different ways – worked in rows, rounds, and increase in rows and rounds.

Here is what Kristin says about her new self-published book:

“I wrote this book for me. Well, the beginner-crocheter me anyway. I remember that when I first learned to crochet, I was so excited to create everything and anything but didn’t know where to begin.

How I would have loved to have a stitch reference book that could teach me not only how to crochet beautiful stitch patterns but also transform beautiful stitch patterns in so many ways!

In this book, each stitch pattern is interpreted four different ways for unlimited possibilities for exploration.

Each stitch pattern includes charts as well as written instructions for every adaptation of the pattern’s stitches along with repeating information for you to explore beyond the written words and charts.”
