In every episode of Nicki’s Crochet Podcast, Nicki reveals the most interesting crochet designer secrets. Episode 8 features Marly from Marly Bird
I have been admiring Marly from Marly Bird for a very long time before I got to meet her!
I remember the “fan girl” moment when we finally met, only to find out she was having a “fan girl” moment about me too!
I was over the moon to get to chat with Marly again and remember some fun moments we shared.
You might have seen Marly’s wonderful designs before, but we have some juicy details that not everyone will know.
I’m so excited that Marly agreed to join me for my podcast called Nicki’s Crochet Podcast where I try to reveal crochet designer secrets and allow you to see designers from a totally different perspective.
You get to submit your questions, too. In fact, you can even request whom you would like me to interview in the future.

Summary of Episode 8 with Marly
Marly is not only a great crocheter, but she is also a knitting guru and used to travel around the country teaching both fiber arts!
When asked which craft is her favorite, Marly had a hard time choosing. However, if she really had to choose, she would grab her knitting needles first.
She learned to crochet from her grandmother, knitting came a couple of years later.
Marly reveals how she used to daydream in her job about owning a yarn store. However, after talking to an actual yarn store owner, she changed the direction she wanted to go in. Guess what she decided to do instead?
Marly was a trendsetter in the crochet podcast industry and was the very first crochet-related podcast on iTunes.
I was amazed when Marly shared all the different achievements and people she worked with when she first got into the yarn world. It is a varied and interesting career.
Marly is currently an ambassador for a big yarn company and she also enjoys working on her own blogging business and new designs. The two avenues go hand in hand very well.
Make-alongs are Marly’s specialty, I was so amazed at how many “bicrafty” alongs she has run over the years and how they evolved.
Marly reveals her favorite stitch in crochet and knitting and her favorite techniques. Her bread and butter is a combination of color and texture.
I was amused when Marly shared a funny story involving a luxurious mink and cashmere yarn and looking like a Yeti.
Marly sang praises to her supportive husband, however, he is not interested in yarn crafts at all.
Her daughter is a knitter and even ended up making a quick sample for one of Marly’s published books. She also helps her with editing videos.
Marly reveals what technique and design she is really bad at and actually outsources it from other designers.
In her spare time, Marly is a high school coach for track and field at her son’s school.
