In every episode of Nicki’s Crochet Podcast, Nicki reveals the most interesting crochet designer secrets. Episode 10 features Hannah from HanJan Crochet.
I discovered Hannah from HanJan Crochet through one of my crochet pattern bundles.
Later on, I was looking through old copies of a crochet magazine and spotted Hannah’s design in it, not knowing she has been a crochet designer for such a long time!
You might have seen Hannah’s wonderful designs before, but we have some juicy details that not everyone will know.
I’m so excited that Hannah agreed to join me for my podcast called Nicki’s Crochet Podcast where I try to reveal crochet designer secrets and allow you to see designers from a totally different perspective.

Summary of Episode 10 with Hannah
Hannah starts off talking about how she started crocheting well over a decade ago and how she started making crochet gifts for her friends’ babies.
She got contacted by a crochet magazine just starting out and got interviewed to be one of the in-house designers.
Hannah turned crocheting into a successful business she has been investing her full time for the last two years.
I have noticed Hannah’s designs have evolved over the last two years into really intricate designs and she explains how that has happened.
I laughed when Hannah talked about her kids queuing up to use her yarn winder but the real naughty one is the family dog.
Hannah’s dog once ate a crochet sample project she was working on for the magazine which involved a lot of glitter yarn.
I was amused by a story Hannah shared about her husband who is always surprised by her newest designs.
Hannah shared a glimpse into her daily routine and how she squeezes some crochet time into her day, even 10 minutes before the school drop-off. Every minute counts.
We spoke about Hannah’s other hobbies which involve getting her hands dirty and using her voice.
I was surprised when Hannah shared what her favorite project is and the different perspectives she approaches this question.
When asked what comes first – yarn or idea – Hannah gets inspired by an idea first. This comes from having to work with certain yarns when she used to design commissions for magazines and yarn companies.
Hannah mentioned her favorite stitch and how she used it in various designs as she can not get enough of it! It is a simple stitch with a stunning texture that lends itself to so many different designs.

Challenging, exciting, and relaxing – that is the three goals Hannah was aiming for when designing this blanket.
Hannah launched the blanket as a crochet along with step-by-step videos and a crochet course as well.

“The Strawberries and Cream Blanket is a feast of different crochet stitches.
The blanket uses just 3 types of beginner crochet stitches and there are video tutorials for every step of the way.
So even if you are a complete beginner, with some time and energy I know you can achieve this!”
