A compilation of 10 free and cute rainbow crochet patterns you can make to celebrate Pride. These are quick and easy makes.
June is Pride month – a month dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ communities all around the world.
This is to mark the protests that took place in June 1969 which changed gay rights for a lot of people in America and around the world.
Pride month is about acceptance, equality, celebrating the work of LGBTQ+ people, education in LGBTQ+ history, and raising awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community.
During Pride Month, it is not uncommon to see the rainbow flag being proudly displayed as a symbol of the LGBTQ+ rights movement.
Gilbert Baker designed the rainbow flag to represent the community. He saw the rainbow as a natural flag from the sky.
So he adopted eight colors for the stripes, each color with its own meaning (hot pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for art, indigo for harmony, and violet for spirit).
You can for sure crochet a rainbow flag to mark this special month. However, I have also put together a collection of other rainbow crochet patterns.
These range from small appliqués to great sweaters and bags.
But remember the rainbow has more meanings as well:
- Rainbow Baby
- Friendship
- Love
