This DIY tutorial will teach you how to make Reversible Faux Fur Pom-Poms for hats easily and quickly using this photo and video tutorial.
About 2 weeks ago, I went to Joann’s Craft Store to pick up some faux fur because it was on sale. I was so excited because I not only was able to finally created my own Faux Fur pom-poms, but I also came up with the idea to create reversible faux fur pom poms. It worked out beautifully, in my mind. But I was not sure whether it will work out in reality.
So, after I created the Faux Fur Pom-Pom Tutorial and taught you how to save money making them yourself, I went right to my second part. And when I tested it out and it worked out, I was so beyond happy!
If you prefer making yarn pom-poms go for it. But I feel like, in the long run, faux fur pom poms and reversible faux fur pom poms will save you so much more money and time. It goes a lot faster making a faux fur pom-pom than a yarn pom-pom.
So, you will simply need some faux fur from Joann’s or a store who sells them, some scissors, pointy needle, tapestry needle to something slightly bigger than a pointy needle (like a kabob stick) and some yarn. That’s it.
Also, for those of you who want very cheap stuffing, let me give you a tip. If you have any ripped, old or dirty stuffed animals, just take them apart and save the stuffing. I do that. Saves so much money. Better than throwing those stuffed animals in the trash with free stuffing/polyfil inside. And for the yarn that you need to make the faux fur pom-poms for hats, I simply use leftover yarn I have saved for situations like this.
So, now let me show you how I actually make reversible faux fur pom-poms and why they are so amazingly fast to make.
The Most Important Part of all: Reversible Faux Fur Pom-Pom Photo Tutorial
First, you will need all your materials, such as 2 different types of faux fur, tapestry needle, scissors, bowl and a pen to trace a circle, about a foot of yarn (similar in color as your faux fur) and
Now cut a circle using anything you have (even a bowl will do). Both of my circular faux furs have 6 inches in diameter. Once you have your 2 circles of faux fur, lay the non-faux fur sides on top of each other. Now you will now weave your yarn with your needle on the edge (about 1/4 inch from the edge) all around in the circles, holding them together at the same time.
It is much easier to get your needle with the yarn through the faux fur if you make a hole that is slighly bigger. I used tapestry needle to make a bigger hole then my other needle is. But you can also use a kabob stick.
Once you made your hole, just use your needle with the yarn attached. Weave the yarn about 3/4 around the circle.
Once you reach that 3/4 point, stuff the 2 layers with a little bit of stuffing, but not too much. You don’t want a pom-pom just yet! You want to be able to make it reversible.
Now finish closing the hole, such that the yarn is woven all around. Finally, add one more yarn string to the opposite side of the circle where you just finished weave the yarn around. See my video below, if that makes no sense.
You are now finally ready to use your Reversible Faux Fur Pom Pom. Simply pull the set of yarn strings that you used to weave around the circle.
Every time, I need a faux fur pom pom, I will now make them myself. In fact, I just bought a blanket that was made with faux fur. Instead of using it as a blanket, I will cut it up and use it to make faux fur pom-poms.
If you rather just want normal faux fur pom poms, please check out my tutorial HERE.
You can now attach the faux fur pom poms temporarily on your hat, scarves, blankets or more. And every time, you get tired of one color. Just turn it around. I attach my pom poms by weaving each set of yarn strings through my hats and then tying them like I would my shoes. That way they are tightly attached but can still be removed when switching them out or the hat needing to be washed.

I told her she needed to join so she can learn some cool crochet techniques and keep herself busy. You’re my first “go-to” group.
