This free crochet pattern is for a small crochet pumpkin pattern. This pattern is made using linked crochet stitches as well as Hometown yarn from Lion Brand.
It’s Fall. Leaves are changing colors, temperatures are dropping, and pumpkins can be seen everywhere. Although I already have made so many different pumpkin patterns, I simply couldn’t stop myself from making another one or two. This pumpkin is special because it only uses one skein, which is perfect for a quick and easy crochet project.
This pumpkin is so perfect for the fall season! You can use it for Halloween decorations or as an adorable centerpiece for Thanksgiving. You can make your very own handmade pumpkin patch with this pattern and many other cute pumpkin patterns!
You will whip this up quickly, as it’s super simple and uses super bulky yarn!
Linked Crochet Patterns
It also features the not-as-well-known crochet technique called “Linked Crochet”. It’s a technique to allow you to use basic crochet stitches but reduces the number of gaps in between the stitches. In fact, it’s an early stage of Tunisian Crochet, but without needing a new special hook.
So using Linked Crochet for this pattern allowed me to use the treble crochet stitch without having to worry about huge holes and the stuffing from being shown. Plus I didn’t need to use single crochet stitches which can take forever when making a larger pattern. WIN-WIN!
Furthermore, I just published a new Linked Crochet Ebook called “Linked Crochet Made Easy” which includes this pattern and 39 more, plus 10 stitch tutorials and over 22 video tutorials.

Free Written Pattern for the Small Crochet Pumpkin
You’ll first crochet a rectangle, then you’ll sew the first and last row together. Next, you’ll sew one side of the tube closed, stuff it, and then sew the last opening closed as well, add a stem and the ridges to finish the pumpkin.
Instructions:
Ch 21
R1: Insert and pull up a loop thru the 2nd, and 3rd chain from the loop, finish it like a normal dc (made first 1 ldc), 1 ldc in each st, turn
R2-20: Ch 3, 1 ldc in each st, turn
Sew Sides and Openings closed to make a Small Pumpkin
You will fold the rectangle in half and use the mattress stitch to sew the first and last row together. Fasten off.
Now, using the basting stitch, sew around one opening every ~2 rows on the edge. Then pull and close the hole, fasten off, weave in your ends and stuff the 2nd opening with polyfill.
Next, repeat the same process with this opening as the first one. Using the basting stitch sew around the opening, pull, add a stick (e.g cinnamon stick or a tree stick) and close the hole. Fasten off.
Finally, using a longer piece of yarn, weave it through the center from one side to another to create the pumpkin ridges. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
