Let’s get back to basics with a Christmas ball crochet pattern that’s easy to make and customized with simple yet stunning embroidered stars. Using a sparkly yarn makes this Christmas project really shine!
What if you really want to make ornaments for your tree, but you haven’t mastered working in the round yet? That’s where this crochet Christmas ball pattern comes in!
Worked in simple back-and-forth rows, this crochet bauble design couldn’t be simpler. All you need to know is how to slip stitch and half double crochet. You don’t even need to know how to change colors, since the decoration is added on at the end.
What makes it even easier is that this free written crochet pattern also comes with a helpful companion video that will walk you through the project step-by-step. That’s a big bonus for beginner crocheters and visual learners everywhere!

Two-Color Christmas Ball Crochet Pattern
Using two different yarns makes this free crochet ornament pattern twice as much fun.
The base of the ornament is crocheted in one piece using Mary Maxim Starlette sparkly white yarn that looks amazing against a lighted Christmas tree and a navy blue color of yarn is used to embroider the pretty stars on top.
You don’t need much blue so leftover yarn from your stash will do in a pinch! I used worsted weight yarn but the weight doesn’t really matter for the decorative part, so feel free to substitute with dk weight yarn or even bulky yarn if you want bold stars.
To finish your project, you’ll wrap your crochet piece around an ornament and sew the first and last rounds together.
