This is a free cute crochet C2C Book Cover with pockets and great for crochet beginners and C2C lovers and made with worsted yarn.

Corner-to-Corner can be difficult at first cause the technique requires you to think a bit differently when crocheting box stitches in a diagonal row. But once you understand how to read C2C patterns and graphs you can make any C2C pattern you ever dreamed of.

This C2C book cover with many pockets and a latch allows you to practice this technique in many different ways. The pattern includes many video tutorials as it’s broken up into many pieces as it used to be part of a mystery crochet along.

Pattern Notes

This pattern used to be part of a Mystery CAL. So it’s broken up into detailed pieces with many tutorials linked throughout.

C2C Triangle with just increases

C2C Rectangle Tutorial + reading Graphs is HERE

You’ll be using Double Crochet Corner-to-corner to start the rectangle.

The finished triangle (only using increases) should be about 8.5 x 8.5 inches. Continue below to turn it into a rectangle now.

Now that you learned how to increase in C2C it’s time to learn how to decrease or do both at the same time!

Follow this tutorial here to learn how to decrease with DC stitches in C2C.

NEW C2C Rectangle Tutorial + reading Graphs is HERE

If you are new to C2C it’s important to understand how to see WHEN you need to start decreasing. The best way to see when you need to switch from increasing to decreasing is WHEN the direction of the arrow changes. See the picture below to understand that clearly.

Starting row 13 you’ll be increasing on one edge and decreasing on the other edge. If you followed the arrows in part 1 then you’ll be continuing to increase on the edge you finished row 12, so for the beginning of all the odd rows. But you’ll be decreasing at the beginning of all the even rows.

That will continue until row 27. So starting row 28 you will be decreasing on both edges of a row until you finish the rectangle.

Quick Tips:
Use differently colored Stitch Markets to mark the increasing vs decreasing edge for the C2C rectangle.
Increasing edge = ch 6
Decreasing edge = 3 sl st + ch 3

Some extra tips are here (same video on different platforms):

Fasten off and weave in your ends.

Once finished the rectangle should be about 8.5 (h) x 20.5 (w) inches. (+/-1 inch is fine for the width).

Ok, let’s finish the pattern.

For a few pieces, you will use HDC instead of DC. But not all, so look out.

Keep in mind these tips for HDC C2C:

  • start with a chain of 5 for all increasing edges
  • Instead of chain 3 (for dc) you will chain 2 (for hdc)
  • crochet 3 hdc instead of 3 dc
  • the rest of the concept is the same as dc C2C
  • watch this video tutorial if you need it

C2C Book Cover Assembly

Fold over the short end of the book cover rectangle, then sew the touching edges together. If you have a journal use it as a reference to know how far the edges need to be folded.

Now sew each of the little pieces to the book cover. It will help to have the journal inside the cover as a reference to know where to attach the pockets and the latch and closure.

You can pin them to the cover and then remove the journal to have an easier time sewing the pieces together.
