This is a free crochet pouch pattern featuring easy basic crochet stitches. This is a great beginner braided crochet pattern with 3 video tutorials using Premier Pixie Dust Brights and Cotton Puzzle Worsted yarn.
From the beginner to the well-practiced, this pattern can be crocheted by anyone, especially because it includes three easy-to-follow video tutorials.
Although this pattern is braided with what looks like 6 strands, it actually only uses 3 strands. That means you could easily turn this pattern also into an infinity scarf or a regular scarf if you braided it only with 3 strands.
Plus, you’ll be able to customize your work with your choice of colors and decor. With just a few commonly available materials and some patience, you can be proud to show off this luxurious cowl to friends and family. In this article, you will discover the free pattern, three video tutorials that explain the project in detail, and some tips and tricks to help you perfect the braided pattern.
And if you are a visual learner, I also added a few video tutorials to learn the stitches needed to help you along with the written pattern as well. This pattern used to be a mystery crochet along and is broken up like that accordingly.
It’s time to get creative, so let’s get started!

Written Pattern (same as Part 1 and 2) – Make ONE MORE LONG STRAND (3 in total):
Using BOTH yarns at the same time (or using chunky #6 yarn)
Ch 6
R1: starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 ATC, 1 dc in each ch till the end, turn
R2-80: 1 ATC, then 1 dc per st, turn
The crochet stripe is about 57-60 inches long, cut the yarn and leaving a small tail.
Crochet 2 Short Stripes
Using BOTH yarns at the same time, Ch 6
R1: starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 ATC, 1 dc in each ch till the end, turn
R2-16: 1 ATC, then 1 dc per st, turn
Each stripe is about 11 inches long.
Braiding:
Fold the 3 long stripes in half, put one of the short stripes through the folds, turn into a loop and secure it with a stitch marker for now.
For a 6-stranded braid (watch the video above too):
*Now braid the strands like this:
From the right, pick the outermost strand, braid over the next, then under the following.
Now from the left, pick the outermost strand, and braid it under the next, over the following, and under the next one.
Now repeat from * until you’re done.
Stack all 6 strands on top of each other, add the last short stripe folded on top and underneath all 6 strands then sew all 8 layers together.
On the other side (where you started), sew the small stripe into a loop and sew a line close to the beginning of the braid to keep it in place.
Add a button to one of the sides. Use the other sides’ “spaces” between the stitches as the buttonhole.
Now you’re done and can enjoy your new cowl.
