Ch 100
R1: start from the 3rd ch from the hook, 1 sc per st, ch 1, sk 1, turn
R2-74: ch 2, *1 sc into ch-1 space, ch 1, repeat from *, turn
Face Pocket
Ch 34
R1: start from the 3rd ch from the hook, 1 sc per st, ch 1, sk 1, turn
R2-14: ch 2, *1 sc into ch-1 space, ch 1, repeat from *, turn
Now crochet AROUND the square
R1-2: *3 sc into the corner, 1 sc per st/row, repeat from * all around, sl st
The best way to SEW the pocket to the blanket is to fold the blanket first.
- Divide the the blanket into 3 parts, fold the left side inward, and right side over inward as well (they lay all on top of each other – think 3 layers)
- Now divide the folded blanket into 3 parts again: fold ⅓ of it inward, then fold it again over the last part
- It should look like a blanket folded into a square
- Lay the pocket OVER the blanket (where the edge is showing) – optionally pin it first down and unfold it to make sure it’s place properly then sew 3 edges of the square to the top layer of the folded blanket (the touching layer). KEEP the edge that is on the BIG rounded fold open. The idea is to have an opening towards the center of the blanket. Look at my images. Where the ears are you will find the opening of the pocket.
ONCE you unfold the blanket the pocket should be ROUNDED (like 3D like) on the edges – not lay flat. That is intentional as you want to make sure you can flip the blanket into the pocket and therefore not over-stretch the pocket (that is why you sew it on when it’s folded).
Crochet Bunny Blanket / Pillow INSTRUCTIONS continued:
2 Ears
R1: MR, ch 1, 6 sc, close the ring, use a stitch marker for continuous rounds
R2: 2 sc per st (12 sts)
R3: (1 sc, 2 sc) x 6 (18 sts)
R4: (1 sc in 2 sts, 2 sc) x 6 (24 sts)
R5-14: 1 sc per st
R15: *1 sc in 10 sts, 1 inv sc dec, repeat from * all around (22)
R16-17: 1 sc per st
R18: *1 sc in 9 sts, 1 inv sc dec, repeat from * all around (20)
R19-20: 1 sc per st
R21: *1 sc in 8 sts, 1 inv sc dec, repeat from * all around (18)
R22-23: 1 sc per st
R24: *1 sc in 7 sts, 1 inv sc dec, repeat from * all around (16)
R25-32: 1 sc per st
R33: *1 sc in 6 sts, 1 inv sc dec, repeat from * all around (14)
R34-38: 1 sc per st
Fasten off and sew onto the edges of the pocket OPENING.
Crochet Bunny Blanket / Pillow INSTRUCTIONS continued:
2 Noses (pink yarn)
First dc per row is an ATC (or ch 3)
R1: MR, 3 dc, close ring, turn
R2: 2 dc per st, fasten off
Sew the nose centered, ⅓ from the bottom edge of the pocket – ONE on each side.
Then add pink lines for the mouth (like an upside down T but the horizontal line is curved into a smile).
2 Eyes (black yarn)
R1: MR, ch 1, 2 sc, 2 hdc, 2 sc, 2 hdc, close the ring, sl st
R2: (2 sc, 2 sc, 2 hdc, 2 hdc) x 2, sl st, fasten off and sew to the FRONT (folded blanket) pocket. Eyes are centered of the pocket, left and right of the nose.
Then sew on eyebrows right above the eyes.
2 closed Eyes (black yarn)
Ch 10, start from the 2nd ch from the hook
R1: (1 sc in 2 sts, 2 sc) x 3, fasten off
Flip the folded blanket outside of the pocket and sew on the closed eyes – centered to the pocket. Then sew on the eyebrows.
Remember, when you fold the blanket – mentioned in steps 1-4 (with the sewn pocket now), you will add your hand into the pocket and grab hold of one of the corners, then pull it outward, such that the pocket flips around and WRAPS around the folded blanket (securing the blanket). Therefore, the facial expression is now flipped. The idea is to have the sleeping face shown when the blanket is unfolded and have the wake face of the bunny shown when the blanket is folded and turned into a pillow. (the pocket also functions as a space to hold a book).
