Instructions for the Crochet Chain Cable Stitch
Before you start crocheting the Chain Cable Hat, Ornament or Clock, let’s first go through the stitch tutorial and learn how to crochet this stitch.
INSTRUCTIONS:
To make a swatch to practice this stitch, make crochet a multiple of 4 + 1.
R1: start from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc per st, turn
R2: 1 sc in 2 sts, *ch 12 (or number mentioned for pattern), do NOT skip any stitches, 1 sc in 4 sts, repeat from * as many times as needed, 1 sc in 2 sts to finish, turn
Push all chain loops on one side – that will be your front/right side now.
R3: ignoring the chain loops completely, 1 sc per st, turn
R4-6: 1 sc per st, turn
Repeat R2-6 for the pattern
Once you finished all the chain loops, make sure to finish with those 3 sc rows after.
Now work through each chain loop vertical and connect them. Open the bottom loop, push the next one above through it. Now grab the next loop above and push it through the one below etc.
Do this for ALL vertical loops to turn them into chains.
Then crochet the following row:
Last R: 1 sc in 2 sts,* “catch” the last loop of the vertical row, crochet over it and the next stitch 1 sc st (to secure the chain cables), 1 sc in 4 sts, repeat from * until the end, finish with 1 sc in 2 sts, fasten off.
