This is a free cute and poofy scrunchie crochet pattern made with simple basic crochet stitches. This is a great beginner pattern with a video tutorial.
Scrunchies have really picked up in popularity again after the huge 80s and 90s trend came back to life. But there are so many different types of scrunchie patterns. I personally prefer the more traditional poofy scrunchies which are why I designed one as the 11th free crochet pattern of the Advent Calendar Mystery Crochet Along.
This stylish hair gift pattern is the 11th pattern (December 11th) of the 24 patterns. It looks just like the traditional scrunchies from the 80s and 90s – poofy and scrunched up with a hair elastic and air on the inside.
This pattern as all the patterns in this Advent Calendar Mystery Crochet Along comes with a video tutorial to guide you through the pattern. This pattern’s yarn is Vanna’s choice and was provided by Lion Brand Yarns.

Pattern Notes
This is a quick and simple pattern! You’ll be working in the round, crocheting a tube around a hair tie. Continue crocheting until your scrunchie is as ruffle-y as you want 🙂
Instructions for the Crochet Scrunchie
Chain 14 and put your chain through the elastic and slip stitch to the first ch
You’re crocheting in continuous rounds.
R1: 1 sc per ch
R2: 1 sc in the blo in every stitch
Repeat R2 until you have the amount of ruffles for the scrunchie you desire.
Align the last and first-round together and sew the 2 rounds together using any stitch you like. I used the mattress stitch.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
