Step out in style this winter with this gorgeous mosaic crochet hooded cowl. It provides excellent protection against cold weather, offering both neck and head coverage.
This dazzling mosaic crochet cowl proves that you don’t have to sacrifice style for warmth. The pattern uses mosaic crochet to create cascading diamonds. Worked in a beautiful self-striping yarn with gradual color changes, it captures the beauty of sparkling icicles.
Although it looks cool as ice, this hooded cowl scarf will keep you warm and toasty. In overlay mosaic crochet, you work double crochet stitches over the previous row and into the stitch two rows down. The overlay creates an extra thick fabric that will protect you against chilly winter winds.
Mosaic crochet looks intricate but it’s really very simple, even for an adventurous beginner. Plus, I’ll give you all the resources you need to master this technique. Soon, you’ll have a fashionable accessory that you’ll be proud to wear or give as a gift!

Assembling the Mosaic Crochet Hooded Scarf
Fold your piece in half on the long side (where your last row is) and sew the top edge together (mattress stitch).
Now, add the envelope border (video tutorial) around the front opening of the hoodie.
Finally, crochet the cowl to the bottom of the hoodie opening this way (video tutorial is here).
Attach your blue yarn, then ch 29
R1: starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc per ch, sl st to the next st
R2: 1 sc in the blo per st, turn
R3: 1 sc in the blo per st, sl st to the next st, and sl st to the following st, turn
Repeat R2 and R3 for the entire 108 stitches of the first row of the hoodie.
Once done, sl st the first and last row together.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.
You can have the cowl on the outside to keep warm around your neck, OR pull it inward to keep part of your face warm and protected from the cold temperatures.
