Summary of Episode 6 with Ashley

We talked about Ashley sharing details of her personal life on Instagram stories and how that helped her connect with other makers.

She reveals what her husband and daughter say about being in Ashley’s videos.

In 2018, Ashley did an April’s fool joke where her husband magically turned into a pro crocheter, and guess what project he “made”? Her April’s fool jokes have become so popular with her followers, that it is a tradition now.

Ashley shares a little behind the scenes and how building a new house from scratch impacted her crochet.

It was quite a journey for Ashley to get to where she is. She started by selling the viral Claire bun beanies in her Etsy shop. This was before she realized that people actually sell digital patterns. Find out how she started designing and what was her first viral pattern.

At one point Ashley had over 1000 open orders for her finished beanie, so she had to ask nine other crocheters to help!

Find out how Ashley come to “accidentally” start her blog and her journey from making finished pieces to blogging.

She missed sending finished items to people, so she started selling other crochet-related items like stickers and journals.

Ashley is a great example of “figuring things out as you go”. You do not always need a solid plan to start turning your passion into a business.

Ashley shares a funny story about her daughter who is an entrepreneur in making. Her daughter started her own “Crafty Unicorn Palace business” already.

Ashley shares her favorite stitches and projects and how she makes matching collections of patterns. She creates modifications of patterns she has already created as she is snowed under ideas.

Grab your crochet project, and crochet while you listen to the entire episode 6 on Youtube.

The Claire Bun Beanie is the very first pattern Ashley ever wrote up and sold. “I had no idea what I was doing, I didn’t even follow crochet patterns so I totally just made it up as I went!

At the end of 2018, I told my Instagram followers if we reached 10k followers before 2019 I would release one of my paid patterns as a free pattern on my blog.

Well, we hit 10k by the end of November 2018!! I took a poll on my A Crafty Concept Facebook page, and Claire Bun Beanie was the most voted for the pattern.”

You can see the free version on Ashley’s blog, but I strongly recommend you check out Ashley’s Etsy Shop too.

She sells the cutest wrap labels, stickers, and notebooks for makers.
