Free Mosaic Crochet Washcloth Looks like Stained Glass Pattern

This is a free crochet pattern is for a Mosaic Crochet Stained Glass Washcloth made with 1 solid and 1 multi-colored bulky yarn. Video Tutorial is included.
Stained Glass can be made in many different ways, even in crochet. My husband absolutely loves stained glass and would love to have more in our home. As I’m from Europe I’m used to seeing lots of stained glass everywhere. So I thought I would make him a washcloth version. I’m thrilled it turned out so great and he loved it.
Considering this pattern is easy and quickly made and looks amazing, you can easily crochet this washcloth as a gift or for a gift basket for someone special, regardless of the occasion or the time of the year.
I decided to use Premier Yarns’ new yarn called Cotton Fair Bulky which comes in solid and multi colored yarns. It’s a very soft yarn that is 52% cotton and 48% acrylic. They sent me this yarn to try it out. I love how it feels like soft cotton but it’s light like acrylic. Beautiful combination of fibers with bold colors.

Mosaic Crochet
Although it may not look like it at first, mosaic crochet is not a traditional type of color change technique in crochet. You don’t change colors within a row, but only on the edges.

How to Mosaic Crochet the Stained Glass Pattern
Materials you will need
- Premier Yarns Cotton Fair Bulky – Solid and Print
- Pale Green
- Red
- Cherries Jubilee (print)
- 6.0 mm hook -> I used a Furls Crochet Metal Streamline Hook

Gauge
3 sts x 3 rows = 1 square inch

- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sk = skip
- invisible join

Free Written Pattern for the Mosaic Crochet Stained Glass Washcloth
Start with a solid color, ch 23 (multiple of 3 + 1 + 1)
Starting from the 2nd ch from the hook
R1: 1 sc in each st, turn
Change to the print color during the last st of the previous row
R2: Ch 1, sk 1, *1 sc in the next 2 sts, ch 1, sk 1, repeat until you have 1 st left and skip that one, turn
R3: *1 sc in the next 2 sts, ch 1, sk 1, repeat until you have 1 st left (the one you skipped in the previous row), turn
Change to the solid color during the last st of the previous row
R4: *1 dc into the skipped st from R2, 1 sc in the next 2 sts, repeat from * until the end, finishing with 1 dc into the skipped st from R2, turn
R5: 1 sl st into each st (loosely), turn
Change to the print color during the last st of the previous row
Repeat R2 – R5 until you have 8 repeats in total of stained glass rows.
Finally, crochet 1 row of single crochet sts around the entire project (2 sc into the corners, 2 sc per dc of on the edges, 1 sc per sc row or st).
Optionally, ch 10 in the last corner and sl st to the first st of the round to create a loop to hang up your washcloth.
