Storage was always a problem. I mean, how exactly do you fold a Christmas tree? she thought forlornly. That was always her question until she found the folding Christmas tree. It was perfect – just the right size for her end table and easy to store the rest of the year. Her husband surely couldn’t find reason to complain about this decoration…could he?
About the Small Foldable Christmas Tree
I came up with this crochet mini Christmas tree idea out of the blue when I realized that Christmas is fast approaching, but I am not very prepared yet. Furthermore, it came to me that a Christmas tree, whether they big or small, always take up the most storage space in space when it comes to storing them in the months when Christmas is not celebrated.
Well, I wanted a mini Christmas tree that was able to be stored easier so I made it in a way that you can fold it and turn it from a three-dimensional shape to a two-dimensional shape.
Therefore, this Small Foldable Christmas Tree is easily stored. Furthermore, it also can be additionally decorated according to your own imagination. I would love to see how you decorate your Small Christmas trees. Join my Facebook Group and let me see it.

- sl st = slip stitch
Gauge:

Final Size:
7 inches in diameter x 6 inches in height
Instructions:
You are making 2 of 2 sets of triangles which means you will have 2 of the same triangles, but you have 2 different “triangles” to make to create the Christmas tree. So before sewing, you should have 4 triangles crocheted.
Start with the yarn in color Mesa Verde.
First set of triangles
Make 2
Chain 13
Row 1: starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each chain, ch 1, turn
Row 2: 1 sc dec, 1 sc in each st, fasten off.
You are creating a small gap on the bottom of the triangle such that it can stand up.
Chain 13
Row 1: starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each chain, ch 1, turn
Row 2: 1 sc in each st until the last 2 sts, 1 sc dec, ch 1, turn
Row 3: 1 sc in each st until the end of the row, ch 1 (now you connect to the first piece with the 2 rows), 1 sc in each st of the first piece, ch 1, turn
Row 4: 1 sc dec, 1 sc until the last 2 sts, 1 sc dec, ch 1, turn
Row 5: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn
Repeat rows 4 and 5 until you finish with 3 sts in one row, decrease them all to 1 sts.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Second set of triangles
Make 2
Ch 26
Row 1: starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each chain, ch 1, turn
Row 2: 1 sc dec, 1 sc in each sts until the last 2 sts, 1 sc dec, ch 1, turn
We are now working on one of the sides of the triangle first and then crochet the other one after.
Row 3: 1 sc in each of the next 11 sts, ch 1, turn
Row 4: 1 sc in each sts until the last 2 sts, 1 sc dec, ch 1, turn
Row 5: 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn
Repeat rows 4 and 5 until you created a tip. Fasten off and weave in the ends and start crocheting the other side of the triangle according to the instructions below.
Reattach the yarn on sts over where you stopped in row 3.
Row 4: 1 sc in each sts, ch 1, turn
Row 5: 1 sc dec, 1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn
Repeat rows 4 and 5 until you created a tip. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Cutting the plastic canvas
Lay out the 2 times of triangles on a plastic canvas and trace them out. Then cut the tracing out of the canvas and lay it on top of the crocheted triangles. Now cut the plastic canvas pieces such that they are a bit smaller than the crocheted pieces. See my picture below.
Sewing the Triangles of the Christmas Tree together
Now, it is time to sew the triangles with the plastic canvas together by making a sandwich of the 2 same types of triangles with the plastic canvas in the middle.
Now sew all around the triangles such that the plastic canvas is enclosed. Do that for both types of triangles.
Once you finished sewing them together they should both look like the pictures below.
Now you can stack the triangle with the little gap on top of the other one. In order to make the Small Foldable Christmas Tree more stable, we add a yellow bow on top.
Crocheting and Making the Bow
Use the Yellow yarn.
Ch 41 and start from the second ch from the hook and crochet 1 sc in each chain (in the back bump to make it look neater.
Next, make the bow with the chain, like you would if you tied your shoes.
Now, sew the bow to the tips (3) of the Small Foldable Christmas Tree such that it makes the tree stand up and look adorable. The tree will still be able to be folded flat together. Now you are done and can decorate the Small Foldable Christmas Tree further with glitter, ornaments, led lights or whatever your heart desires.
