Each row starts with 1 ATC or ch 3 – both count as a stitch, but the pattern doesn’t mention it below.
R1: MR, 1 ATC, 2 dc, ch 1, *3 dc, ch 1, repeat from * 2 more times, sl st
R2: 1 ATC, *1 dc in each st until you crochet the ch-1 space, into that space crochet [2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc], repeat from *, sl st
R3: 1 ATC,** *1 fpdc, 1 dc in the next 2 sts, repeat from * until you reach the corner (last st before the corner is always a fpdc), into the corner (the ch-1 space) crochet the following [2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc], repeat from ** until the end, finishing with 1 dc in the last st
R4: ch 1, 1 bpdc,** *1 dc, 1 bpdc for the next 2 sts, repeat from * until the corner, into the corner place [1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc], repeat from ** all around, finish with 1 bpdc, sl st
Repeat R3 and R4 until the it wraps around a 18 x 18 inch pillow insert, so the square should measure 36 inches from one corner to another corner DIAGONALLY.
