This is a free Tunisian crochet hat pattern. Learn how to crochet a simple hat using easy Tunisian crochet stitches.
Ready or not, it’s hat and beanie season for a lot of us. I’m not always excited about the cold weather, but I do get excited to crochet brand-new hats for myself each year.
I like this Tunisian knit-purl hat because its simple stitches create a solid fabric so that it’s not too hole-y. It’s also not super bulky, making it the perfect hat to wear during these early days of cold weather.
This slightly slouchy hat features a generous fold-up and a faux fur pom pom on top. You can pair this simple, yet trendy crochet hat with just about any outfit.
Yarn for the Tunisian Crochet Hat Pattern
For this Tunisian crochet pattern, I chose to use Hobby Lobby Yarn Bee Forever Plush yarn. I love how super soft this yarn feels against my skin. Of course, you can use any worsted-weight yarn for this hat pattern, but I highly recommend using the Forever Plush yarn. I know you’re going to love how soft it is.
Tunisian Crochet Hooks
Now, if you’re brand new to Tunisian crochet, then you are going to need to get yourself a Tunisian crochet hook. I know it can be overwhelming when trying to choose a new product that you know very little about. So let me give you some recommendations…
A couple of my favorite options for Tunisian crochet hooks are the Furls Crochet long Tunisian Crochet Hook and the WeCrochet Tunisian Crochet Hook Set. But, hands-down, my absolute favorite is the Clover Tunisian Crochet Hook Set.
In my opinion, the Clover Tunisian Crochet Hook Set really is the best value for your money. So that would be my first choice 🙂

Written Instructions for the Tunisian Crochet Hat
You can make this hat pattern for any hat size, just reference the table below. You can also make this hat non-slouchy. The pattern is written for slouchy/ folder over brim style.
First, use the above hat size reference table and not the head circumference for the head you’re making the hat for. Next, note the height of the hat. If you want to make it slouchy or with fold over brim add 2 -3 inches for the height.
The below pattern is for an adult size, as an example. Make sure to measure the “height” once you made the first row as the chain stretch prevents accurate measurements.
Ch 65
R1 F: starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 TSS in each st (forward path)
R1 R: work stitches off the hook (reverse path)
R2 F: *1 TKS, 1 TPS, repeat from *, finish with an edge stitch
R2 R: work stitches off the hook
Repeat R2 until you reached the height you need.
To finish the hat fold the rectangle in half, and sew the short edge together and fasten off.
Then sew through every other stitch on the top opening of the last row. Pull the yarn to close the hole and fasten off and weave in your ends.
That’s it! Your new Tunisian Crochet Knit-Purl Hat is now ready to wear.
